Honeywell Materials License Agreement

The documents and information contained herein (“the Materials”) are the proprietary data of
Honeywell International Inc. and Honeywell Intellectual Properties Inc (collectively
“Honeywell”). These Materials are provided for the exclusive use of Honeywell Service Centers;
Honeywell--authorized repair facilities; operators of Honeywell aerospace products subject to an
applicable product support agreement, their wholly owned--subsidiaries or a formally
designated third party service provider thereunder; and direct recipients of Materials from
Honeywell’s Aerospace Technical Publication Distribution. The terms and conditions of this
License Agreement govern your use of these Materials, except to the extent that any terms and
conditions of another applicable agreement with Honeywell regarding the operation,
maintenance, or repair of Honeywell aerospace products conflict with the terms and conditions
of this License Agreement, in which case the terms and conditions of the other agreement will
govern. However, this License Agreement will govern in the event of a conflict between its
terms and conditions and those of a purchase order or acknowledgement.
1. License Grant -- If you are a party to an applicable product support agreement, a Honeywell Service Center
agreement, or an authorized repair facility agreement, Honeywell hereby grants you a limited, non--exclusive license
to use these Materials to operate, maintain, or repair Honeywell aerospace products only in accordance with that
agreement.
If you are a direct recipient of these Materials from Honeywell’s Aerospace Technical Publication Distribution and are
not a party to an agreement related to the operation, maintenance or repair of Honeywell aerospace products,
Honeywell hereby grants you a limited, non--exclusive license to use these Materials to maintain or repair the subject
Honeywell aerospace products only at the facility to which these Materials have been shipped (“the Licensed
Facility”). Transfer of the Materials to another facility owned by you is permitted only if the original Licensed Facility
retains no copies of the Materials and you provide prior written notice to Honeywell.
2. Rights In Materials -- Honeywell retains all rights in these Materials and in any copies thereof that are not
expressly granted to you, including all rights in patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets. No license to use
any Honeywell trademarks or patents is granted under this License Agreement.
3. Confidentiality -- You acknowledge that these Materials contain information that is confidential and proprietary to
Honeywell. You agree to take all reasonable efforts to maintain the confidentiality of these Materials.
4. Assignment And Transfer -- This License Agreement may be assigned to a formally designated service
designee to the extent allowed under an applicable product support agreement or transferred to a subsequent owner
or operator of an aircraft containing the subject Honeywell aerospace products. However, the recipient of any such
assignment or transfer must assume all of your obligations under this License Agreement. No assignment or transfer
shall relieve any party of any obligation that such party then has hereunder.
5. Copies of Materials -- Unless you have the express written permission of Honeywell, you may not make or permit
making of copies of the Materials. Notwithstanding the foregoing, you may make copies of only portions of the
Material for your internal use. You agree to return the Materials and any copies thereof to Honeywell upon the
request of Honeywell.

6. Term -- This License Agreement is effective until terminated as set forth herein. This License Agreement will
terminate immediately, without notice from Honeywell, if you fail to comply with any provision of this License
Agreement or will terminate simultaneously with the termination or expiration of your applicable product support
agreement, authorized repair facility agreement, or your formal designation as a third party service provider. Upon
termination of this License Agreement, you will return these Materials to Honeywell without retaining any copies and
will have one of your authorized officers certify that all Materials have been returned with no copies retained.
7. Remedies -- Honeywell reserves the right to pursue all available remedies and damages resulting from a breach
of this License Agreement.
8. Limitation of Liability -- Honeywell does not make any representation regarding the use, accuracy or sufficiency
of the Materials. THERE ARE NO OTHER WARRANTIES, WHETHER WRITTEN OR ORAL, EXPRESS, IMPLIED
OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, (i) WARRANTIES ARISING FROM COURSE OF
PERFORMANCE, DEALING, USAGE, OR TRADE, WHICH ARE HEREBY EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMED, OR (ii)
WARRANTIES AGAINST INFRINGEMENT OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF THIRD PARTIES, EVEN
IF HONEYWELL HAS BEEN ADVISED OF ANY SUCH INFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT WILL HONEYWELL BE
LIABLE FOR ANY INCIDENTAL DAMAGES, CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, SPECIAL DAMAGES, INDIRECT
DAMAGES, LOSS OF PROFITS, LOSS OF REVENUES, OR LOSS OF USE, EVEN IF INFORMED OF THE
POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THESE LIMITATIONS
AND EXCLUSIONS WILL APPLY REGARDLESS OF WHETHER LIABILITY ARISES FROM BREACH OF
CONTRACT, WARRANTY, TORT (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO NEGLIGENCE), BY OPERATION OF LAW,

9. Controlling Law -- This License shall be governed and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New
York without regard to the conflicts of laws provisions thereof. This license sets forth the entire agreement between
you and Honeywell and may only be modified by a writing duly executed by the duly authorized representatives of
the parties.

clutch internal armature is secure. These
production critical items and procedures have been
incorporated by Honeywell on all units with Serial
No. XXX0567 and above. TESTING is not
affected.
4006719--22--2 B 15 Aug 1976 Removal and cleaning of screws, mounting holes,
(21--1146--15) and nuts, application of primer and staking
compound to screw threads, and reassembly of the
Servo Drive ensures unit components are securely
installed in a permanent manner. This product
improvement procedure has been performed on all
units with Serial No. XXX0910 and above.
TESTING is not affected.
4006719--22--3 C 29 Oct 1979 This modification replaces the clutch on --910
(21--1146--34) servos that have unserviceable clutches. Product
improvement modification has been accomplished
by Honeywell at the factory on units with Serial
No. XXX2436 and above, except Serial
No. XXX2843 thru XXX2853, XXX2866 thru
XXX2877, and XXX2922 thru XXX2945. TESTING
is not affected.
4006719--22--4 D 29 Oct 1979 This modification replaces the housing assembly of
(21--1146--38) the servo for a lightweight configuration. Product
improvement modification was accomplished at the
factory by Honeywell on units with Serial
No. 29033650 and above. TESTING is not
affected.
4006719--22--5 E 15 Sep 1982 This modification decreases the maximum clutch
(21--1981--28) engage voltage from 22 volts dc to 18 volts dc.
Product improvement modification was
accomplished at the factory by Honeywell on units
with date code Serial No. 8108XXX and later.

4006719--22--6 F 1 Sep 1983 This modification protects against water seepage
(21--1982--56) through the connector mount by adding a rubber

INTRODUCTION
1. How to Use This Manual
A. General
(1) The instructions in this manual give the data necessary to do all recommended
maintenance functions to put the SM--200 Servo Drive (Servo Drive) in serviceable
condition. Standard maintenance procedures that technicians must know are not
given in this manual.
(2) Honeywell recommends that you do the tests in TESTING AND FAULT ISOLATION
before you disassemble the unit. These tests can show the condition of the Servo
Drive or most possible cause of a malfunction. If a malfunction occurs, repair as
necessary.
(3) Warnings, cautions, and notes in this manual give the data that follows:
• A WARNING gives a condition or tells personnel what part of an operation or

maintenance procedure, that if not obeyed, can cause injury or death.
• A CAUTION gives a condition or tells personnel what part of an operation or
maintenance procedure, that if not obeyed, can cause damage to the equipment.
• A NOTE gives data, not commands. The NOTE aids personnel when they do the
related instruction.
(4) Warnings and cautions go before the applicable paragraph or step. Notes follow the
applicable paragraph or step.
(5) All personnel who operate equipment and do maintenance specified in this manual
must know and obey the safety precautions.

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

1. Physical Description
A. General
(1) The Servo Drive (see Figure 1) is an automatic flight control system power unit.
When coupled to the servo drum and housing assembly, the Servo Drive controls
aircraft aileron, elevator, and rudder surface positions.
(2) The Servo Drive is composed of a motor--tachometer, which is externally mounted on

a cast aluminum housing that contains a bearing--supported gear train (see Figure 2),
a synchro (except for --94X and --95X units), and a clutch. The synchro, when
present, and clutch are externally mounted on a plate that serves as a cover for the
housing. The leading particulars are listed in Table 1. Table 2 lists data for the gear
trains.
2. Functional Description
A. General
(1) The function of the Servo Drive is to translate electrical inputs into a rotational
mechanical output to drive a drum and housing assembly. It also provides position
and rate feedback signals. Figure 3 illustrates power and signal flow and provides a
graphic explanation of the Servo Drive.

TESTING AND FAULT ISOLATION

1. Overview
A. General
(1) The function of the test procedures is to find if there is a failure in the operation of the
Servo Drive. If corrective steps are necessary, you must make sure the product is in
serviceable condition.
(2) Use the test procedures in this section to test and fault isolate the Servo Drive.
B. Equipment and Materials
(1) Refer to the applicable test procedure for equipment.

MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS FOR SAFETY INFORMATION. SOME
MATERIALS CAN BE DANGEROUS.

MATERIALS SPECIFIED BY HONEYWELL. MATERIALS NOT
EQUIVALENT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT AND CAN

2. Procedure
CAUTION: THE SERVO DRIVE CONTAINS ESDS ITEMS. USE PROTECTIVE
PROCEDURES.
CAUTION: HONEYWELL HAS PREPARED AN AIRWORTHINESS CRITICAL

REQUIREMENTS ANALYSIS FOR THIS AIRBORNE EQUIPMENT TO MAKE
SURE THAT IT WILL NOT CAUSE A DANGEROUS IN--FLIGHT CONDITION.
SPECIFIC PARTS, TESTS, AND PROCEDURES THAT ARE IDENTIFIED AS
PRODUCTION CRITICAL IN THE ANALYSIS ARE CHANGED TO
AIRWORTHINESS CRITICAL IN THIS MANUAL. IT IS NECESSARY TO DO
THESE PROCEDURES AND TESTS TO GET THE APPROVED RESULTS.
A. Integrated Test Procedures
(1) Table 1001 is an integrated test procedure (IT). Use the test procedure to make an
analysis of the performance of the Servo Drive. Table 1001 contains Honeywell
IT4006719, Revision AT.

B. Fault Isolation
(1) Get the test number that is unsatisfactory in Table 1001.
(2) Use fault isolation flow diagrams, Figure 1001, and Figure 1002 to isolate the
malfunction to a subassembly or part.
(3) Use the schematics in SCHEMATICS AND WIRING DIAGRAMS section as

necessary for fault isolation.
C. Parts Inspection
(1) Examine electrical parts visually to find any indication of a failure. If there is no
indication of a defect, do the standard electrical checks to isolate a fault.
D. Parts Data
(1) Refer to the ILLUSTRATED PARTS LIST for a full description of an item when it is
necessary to replace the item during repair.

TITLE: INTEGRATED TEST SPECIFICATION FOR SPZ--200 SERVO, PART NO. 4006719
1. SCOPE
This integrated test specification establishes the electrical and mechanical parameters that the
SPZ--200 servo must meet to ensure that the unit is in proper operating condition. This
specification also contains the detailed test procedures.
This integrated test specification applies to all dash numbers of the 4006719. The dash number
denotes the variable power and synchro gear ratios as well as the bracket mounting
configuration and connector configuration.

3. GENERAL INFORMATION
3.1 Function
The SPZ--200 servo consists of a dc motor tachometer assembly that drives an output spline
through a power gear train and a synchro through a synchro gear train. The power gear train
contains a clutch that can be engaged or disengaged as required. The servo is the power
unit which when coupled to any of the drum and bracket assemblies in the airplane, controls
the position of the rudder, elevator, or aileron surfaces.
3.2 CRITICAL TESTS
Test paragraph numbers 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 which check stall torque and clutch wiring are
Production Critical and 100 percent compliance to these paragraphs is required.
3.3 RMS Voltages
Unless otherwise specified, all values specified for ac voltages shall be RMS.
3.4 Test Conditions
All tests shall be performed at standard conditions (25 ± 10_C and 28 to 32 inches of
mercury).
3.5 Equipment Calibration
All test equipment is to be properly calibrated.
3.6 Units Tested
All tests are to be performed on 100 percent of the units.
3.7 Test Order
All tests shall be performed in the order listed unless otherwise specified.

3.8 Clutch Conditions
The following clutch conditions will be referred to by name only in some portions of this
specification.
3.8.1 Clutch Engaged
When more than 18 volts dc is applied to the clutch coil then the clutch shall engage.
3.8.2 Clutch Disengaged
When less than 3.0 volts dc is applied to the clutch coil then the clutch shall disengage.
3.9 Tach Warmup
No warmup is required to run the tach output (test paragraph No. 11).
3.10 Stall Torque
The term “slowly rotate” shall be defined as approximately 1 revolution per minute (test
paragraph numbers 5, 6, and 7).
3.11 Clutch Excitation Pins
The clutch excitation voltage should be applied to the following pins to engage the clutch.

Column Description
TEST NO. Tests are numbered in sequence. If any tests are added in future revisions,
these added tests may be numbered X.1, X.2, and X.3.
OPR LIMITS Unit under test (UUT) shall meet these limits whenever tested at other than the

DISASSEMBLY
1. Overview
A. General
(1) Use these procedures to remove parts from the Servo Drive to do the cleaning,
checks, repair, and replacement of parts as necessary. References to figure and item
numbers in the IPL show where to find the parts to remove. The applicable figure
number in the IPL is given in each primary paragraph and does not change until
specified differently.
(2) Before disassembly, use TESTING AND FAULT ISOLATION to examine the condition
of the Servo Drive or to find the most probable cause of malfunctions. Do this to
prevent disassembly that is not necessary. Do only those procedures of disassembly
that are necessary to remove defective parts and to correct malfunctions.
(3) As an aid for assembly, tag the items that are disconnected to show where the
connections were made. Include data on any special conditions of a connection, such
as the polarity and the position of the items. Identify the tie points for the
motherboard wire assembly to prevent damage to the wire insulation during final
assembly.
(1) Refer to Table 3001 for equipment.
(2) No materials are necessary.
(3) Equivalent alternatives are permitted for equipment. It is the responsibility of the user
to determine equivalent alternatives.

2. Procedure
PROCEDURES.
A. Removal of the Servo Drive
CAUTION: DISCARD AND REPLACE BEARINGS IF THEY ARE REMOVED DURING

DISASSEMBLY. CONTAMINATION AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE BEARINGS
WILL OCCUR WHEN THEY ARE REMOVED FROM THE UNIT.
(1) Remove two screws (25 or 25A, IPL Figure 1 thru IPL Figure 1D) from retaining
plate (300 or 305).
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE THE HOUSING FROM THE PLATE
TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE LEAD ASSEMBLY CAUSED BY THE
GEAR TRAINS.
(2) Remove leads from the toothed clutch (245, 246, 248, 249, 249A, 249B, or 249C) at
terminals 1 and 2 on the retaining plate (300 or 305).
(3) Remove wire that locks plain nut (195). Remove two nut (195) and two flat
washers (200).
(4) Remove spur gear (210, 215, 220, 225, 230, or 235) using a gear puller, Part
No. T3076030.
(5) Remove machine key (205) from the toothed clutch shaft.
(6) Remove three screws (240). Remove the toothed clutch from retaining plate (300 or
305).
NOTE: You now have access to all assemblies and parts for further disassembly or
for maintenance. Refer to the ILLUSTRATED PARTS LIST.

CLEANING
1. Overview
A. General
(1) Use these procedures to remove dust, dirt, and unwanted oil and grease. Be careful
not to cause damage to the parts when you do these procedures.
(2) Do the procedures in a clean location. When you use pressurized air to clean
assemblies and parts, do not use more air pressure than is necessary.
(3) After you clean the assemblies and parts, supply protection from moisture, dust, and
other contamination until you do a visual check and assemble the component.

CAUTION: IF YOU CLEAN ESDS PARTS WITH PRESSURIZED AIR, MAKE SURE THE
HOSE HAS AN AIR IONIZING NOZZLE OR GUN. AN ELECTROSTATIC
CHARGE CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE PARTS IF THE NOZZLE OR GUN
ATTACHMENT IS NOT USED.
CAUTION: BEFORE YOU USE ISOPROPANOL, MAKE SURE IT DOES NOT CAUSE
DAMAGE TO THE PAINTED SURFACES. DO NOT IMMERSE PARTS. APPLY
A MINIMUM QUANTITY OF ISOPROPANOL; TOO MUCH CAN DAMAGE
CONFORMAL COATING AND NON--IMMERSIBLE PARTS.
CAUTION: USE ISOPROPANOL CAREFULLY WHEN YOU CLEAN FLUX FROM THE
SOLDER CONNECTIONS. DO NOT LET THE CLEANER TOUCH THE
CONNECTOR BODY.
A. External Parts
(1) Remove dirt and dust with pressurized air or a soft, natural--bristle brush.
(2) Remove oil and grease that has collected on the Servo Drive. Use a clean cloth or
cotton swab that is moist with isopropanol.
(3) Remove unwanted material on painted surfaces that show index markings, numerals,
or letters. Use a clean cloth that is moist with a mild detergent. To clean an area in a
recess, use a stiff--bristle brush that is moist with a mild detergent.
B. Electrical Parts
(1) Remove dirt and dust around the connector pins with pressurized air.
(2) Remove dirt and dust on the electrical parts with a soft, natural--bristle brush or
cotton swab that is moist with isopropanol.
C. Metallic Mechanical Parts
CAUTION: WHEN YOU REMOVE CORROSION, MOVE THE CROCUS CLOTH

PARALLEL TO THE AXIS OF THE PART. IF YOU MOVE THE CROCUS
CLOTH ACROSS THE AXIS, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE
FINISH.
(1) Remove corrosion from the metal parts with a 4/0 crocus cloth.
(2) Clean the metal parts in a bath of isopropanol. If submersion can cause damage to
the part, wipe the part fully with a cloth that is moist with isopropanol.
(3) Dry the part with pressurized air.

CHECK
1. Overview
A. General
(1) Use these procedures to find damaged or worn parts and parts that show signs of
near failure. Do these checks during testing and fault isolation, disassembly, and
assembly.
(2) Replace all damaged or worn parts. This prevents future failures of the equipment.

(1) No equipment is necessary.
2. Procedure
A. Precautions
PROCEDURES.
CAUTION: DO NOT TOUCH THE CONNECTOR OR COMPONENT PINS UNLESS

PROPERLY GROUNDED. THE ESDS COMPONENT COULD BE DAMAGED
OR ESTABLISHED PERFORMANCE LEVELS COULD BE DEGRADED.
B. Visual Checks
(1) Examine all surfaces (covers included) for twisted, bent, or dented areas. The pieces
must fit together correctly. Installation of the cover must not compress the wires or
cause a blockage in the movement of a part.
(2) Examine the exterior and interior of the Servo Drive. The Servo Drive must be clean
and have no dirt, loose particles, solder splashes, and other unwanted materials.
Painted surfaces should not look worn or have scratches.
(3) Examine the solder connections. Make sure the solder is applied correctly and that
the connections are correctly attached. Make sure solder joints are tight and free of
scratches, roughness, sharp edges, dullness, bridging, or blistering. Solder joints
must show signs of wetting (molten solder adhering and flowing on a metallic surface
to a smooth, even coating) and bonding where the solder blends to the soldered
surface to form a small contact angle.
(4) Examine electrical components. Items that have cracks, have changed in color, and
show signs they became too hot can be defective. Replace them or do electrical
checks to make sure of their condition.
(5) Examine electrical insulation. The insulation must be flexible, not rigid or broken, and
have no surfaces that are burned. Make sure the wires do not touch sharp edges and
surfaces that could cause damage to the insulation.

(6) Examine connector pins. The pins must not be bent or damaged. Make sure the
connectors are tightly engaged.
(7) Examine installed parts. Make sure that all parts are installed correctly and the
attaching hardware is in position and is tight. Make sure the orientation and polarity is
correct.
(8) Examine metal parts. Make sure there is no corrosion, rust, or other structural
damage.
(9) Examine the threaded parts. There must be no cross--threads and burrs.
(10) Examine the identification plate. Make sure the identification plate is tightly attached
and you can read it.
(11) Examine the spline and gear teeth. Make sure that there is not too much wear or
damage.
(12) Examine the clutch assembly. Make sure the clutch assembly is Part No. 4005652,
Rev K or higher, or Part No. 7003989--904 or --905. Check for too much wear.

REPAIR
1. Overview
A. General
(1) Use these procedures for the Servo Drive to replace defective parts and replace or
repair defective subassemblies.
(2) Do only those procedures of disassembly that are necessary to make repairs. When

Shop repairs that are done in the same way on many types of assemblies are
defined as standard repair procedures. Supplement the standard repair
procedures with approved local shop practices.
B. Special Repair of the Retaining Plate and Servo Drive Housing
(1) Remove dents in the retaining plate (300 or 305, IPL Figure 1 thru IPL Figure 1D) and
servo drive housing (320, 325, or 327) and sand the areas to be painted. Use a
180--grit paper and finish with a 360--grit paper.
(2) Clean the surfaces that need to be painted with isopropyl alcohol.
(3) Use lusterless black enamel and a soft--bristled brush to apply paint where
necessary. To cure enamel, bake for 1 hour at 250 ±10 _F (121.1 ± 5.6 _C).
C. Special Repair of the Connector J1
(1) Make the pins straight in connector J1 (270 or 271D, IPL Figure 1 thru
IPL Figure 1D). If there is damage to the connector insulation, replace the connector.
(2) If terminals are bent, replace or make them straight.
(3) Replace bent or damaged pins (325A or 325B) in servo drive housing (320 or 325)
and retaining plate (300 or 305).

2. Procedure
PROCEDURES.
A. Installation of the Wires and Terminals
(1) Install terminals (315 or 315A, IPL Figure 1 thru IPL Figure 1D) in retaining plate (300
or 305).
(2) Assemble terminal lug (100) to the retaining plate with screw (90) and lock
washer (95).
(3) Install and solder diode CR1 (85) from terminal 1 (anode) to terminal 2 on the
retaining plate.
(4) Apply adhesive (HMN 9700678) to capacitors C1 and C2 (80) and mount on the
retaining plate.
(5) Tape the capacitors C1 and C2 using HMN 20A0114 to the retaining plate to make
sure the adhesive makes the best possible bond. Allow 16 to 24 hours for adhesive
to air--dry before removing the tape.
(6) Sleeve bus wires (HMN 45D0211) using tubing (HMN 291432, size 24). Install and
solder the bus wires on the retaining plate as follows:
• One from terminal 6 to terminal lug E1 (100)
• One from terminal 4 to 7
• One from terminal 3 to 5.

(7) Install and solder leads of capacitors C1 and C2 (80) on the retaining plate as
follows:
• C1 between terminals 6 and 7
• C2 between terminals 5 and 6.
(8) For --94X and --95X install cover plate (295, IPL Figure 1A, IPL Figure 1C, or
IPL Figure 1D) on retaining plate (305) and attach with three screws (285).
B. Installation of the Toothed Clutch
NOTES:
(1) Clean pole face (81, IPL Figure 2), housing assembly (9), and armature (111) with
solvent (HMN 1130778).
NOTE: This procedure only applies to black--colored parts, not the nickel--plated
parts which are bright silver in color.
NOTE: Part No. 7003989--903 toothed clutch assemblies may have both black and
silver colored parts.
NOTE: Part No. 7003989--904 toothed clutch assemblies have silver colored parts
only.
(2) Use a cotton swab and apply the corrosion inhibitor (HMN 61A0278) to the areas that
follow:
• Housing (9) end and inside diameter surfaces that are not painted
• Complete surface of armature (111)
• Pole face (see Figure 7001 for identification of areas to be applied with inhibitor).

(3) Allow parts 15 minutes to air--dry.
(4) Insert the small diameter of the bearing (18, IPL Figure 2) into the small end of the
housing assembly (9). Install the shield (15) and the retaining ring (12).
NOTE: Make sure in step 2.B.(5) the two springs (123 and 132) are put in a position
so that the fingers point in opposite directions (cw and ccw). See
Figure 7002.

(5) Install one spring (132), one spacer (126), and the second spring (123) on the small
diameter end of the splined shaft (135). Apply a small amount of
adhesive (HMN 9700678) to the threads of the four screws (114) and, with these
screws, four lock washers (117), and four bushings (120) attach the springs to the
splined shaft as shown in Figure 7002. Tighten the screws to 7 ± 1 lb--in. (0.79
± 0.11 NSm) of torque.

(6) Drill holes in springs (123 and 132) and install spacers (129) as follows:
(a) Put the small diameter end of splined shaft (135) in the center hole of the base
plate of the drill and ream fixture T3076082.
(b) Align the three holes in springs (123 and 132) with the three holes in the base
plate of the fixture.
(c) Put three spacers (129) between the two springs and align with the holes in the
springs.
(d) Set the drill press speed for approximately 400 rpm and drill through the holes in
springs (123 and 132) with a 0.125--inch diameter drill bit.
(e) Ream each hole with a 0.126--inch reamer. Remove the splined shaft assembly
from the fixture and clean the parts.
(7) Assemble drive plate (63) and 0.010--in. shim (66) to pole face (81) with three
screws (60).
(8) Insert the three dowel pins on pole face (81) into holes in shaft (36) flange.
(9) Temporarily attach shaft (36) to pole face (81) with three screws (33).
NOTE: After the completion of step (8), shaft (36) and pole face (81) are a matched
set and each part should be marked before any disassembly.
(10) Put five (0.010--in.) thick] spacers (30) on shaft (36). Position the 0.012--in. plastic
shim stock, as shown in Figure 7003. Insert pole face (81) and shaft assembly into
housing assembly (9).
(11) Put inserts in drive plate (105) through holes in armature (111) and install on top of
pole face (81) and drive plate (63), meshing the teeth of the drive plates.
(12) Make the airgap checking setup as shown in Figure 7004. Adjust the power supply
until the digital voltmeter (DVM) shows 320 mA.
(13) Use flexible strips of various thicknesses of plastic shim stock to measure the airgap
between the armature and the pole face. Access the airgap through the hole in the
middle of the armature (111), as shown in Figure 7004. The airgap should be 0.004
± 0.001 in. (0.10 ± 0.025 mm).
(14) Remove three screws (60) and drive plate (63) to adjust the airgap. Replace
shim (66) as necessary. Tighten the three screws to 10 ± 1 oz--in. (0.071
± 0.007 NSm) of torque and examine the airgap.
CAUTION: DO NOT GET RETAINING COMPOUND ON DRIVE PLATE (63) TEETH

WHEN DOING STEP 2.B.(15).
(15) Remove three screws (60) from drive plate (63). Apply primer and then retaining
compound to the screw threads. Install the screws and tighten them to
10 ± 1 oz--in. (0.071 ± 0.007) of torque. Remove 0.012--in. plastic shim stock from
inside of housing.

(16) Remove three screws (33) to move shaft (36) apart from pole face (81). Keep the
screws and use them in step 2.B.(25).
(17) Clean bushing (57) and pole face (81) with solvent (HMN 1130778).
(18) Apply primer (HMN 9731178) and then retaining compound (HMN 97A0378) to
outside diameter of bushing (57) and inside diameter of pole face (81).
Cure retaining compound at 72 _F (22.2 _C for ten minutes.
NOTE: The bushing must be pressed into the pole face in less than 4 minutes after
the retaining compound has cured.
(19) Use an arbor press and punch, Part No. T3076674, to press bushing (57) into pole
face (81). Make sure the bushing stops against the shoulder in the bottom of the pole
face.
NOTE: The three spacers (129) from step 2.B.(6)(c) are now between the two
springs (123 and 132).
(20) Install splined shaft (135) and spring assembly (see Figure 7002) onto
armature (111) and drive plate (105) assembly. Attach with three spacers (102), three
flat washers (99), three lock washers (96), and three screws (93), through
springs (123 and 132) and spacers (129), into the inserts in drive plate (106), which
should be protruding through the armature (111) (see Figure 7005).
(21) Install splined shaft (135) assembly from step 2.B.(20) into holding fixture
T3076185 (see Figure 7006). Install spacers (42 or 52B, 45 or 52E, 48 or 52F, and
51 or 52G) to equal 0.020 in. (0.508 mm) on splined shaft (135) and install pole
face (81) assembly on shaft.
(22) Measure the air gap between the disengaged teeth of the drive plates. Add or
subtract spacers (42 or 52D, 45 or 52E, 48 or 52F, and 51 or 52G) on splined
shaft (135) as necessary to get an air gap of 0.011 ± 0.001 in. (0.279 ± 0.025 mm).
(23) Install spacers (42 or 52D, 45 or 52E, 48 or 52F, and 51 or 52G) on splined
shaft (135) through center of pole face (81) to equal 0.020 in. (0.508 mm). Install
retaining ring (39), then shaft (36), engaging dowel pins on pole face in shaft flange
holes. Examine drag torque with torque watch. Add or subtract spacers as
necessary (replace retaining ring each time) until you get a torque of 0.5 to
4.0 oz--in (3.53 to 28.25 mNSm).
NOTE: Use a new retaining ring (39) each time you do step 2.B.(24).
(24) Remove shaft (36) from pole face (81) assembly and install spring tension
washer (54) on top of spacers (42 or 52D, 45 or 52E, 48 or 52F, and 51 or 52G).
Install shaft (36) as in 2.B.(24) and attach with three screws (33) removed in
step 2.B.(16).
(25) Put spacers (21 or 52, 24 or 52A, 27 or 52B, and 30 or 52C), with a total thickness of
0.040 in. (1.016 mm), on shaft (36). Install housing assembly (9) over shaft. Install
the unit in holding fixture T3095357.

(26) Disassemble to clean mating teeth of the drive plates with solvent (HMN 1130778)
and an acid brush. Assemble again.
(27) Apply 28 ± 1 V dc to the coil leads and examine the airgap as shown in Figure 7007.
Add or subtract spacers (21 or 52, 24 or 52A, 27 or 52B, and 30 or 52C) as
necessary to get the correct airgap. Refer to step 2.B.(10).
(28) With 28 ± 1 V dc still applied to the assembly and the holding fixture unlocked, use a
0 to 30 oz--in. (0 to 0.121 NSm) torque wrench to make sure that the drag torque is
less than 10 oz--in. (0.706 NSm). Do step 2.B.(24) again, if necessary, to meet this
requirement.
(29) Use the holding fixture, keys, locking plate, nut, and calibration weight to lock up the
clutch (see Figure 7008). Apply 26 ± 1 V dc to the coil leads and slowly reduce the
voltage until the calibration weight falls. The voltage at time of disengagement shall
be less than 5 V dc.
(30) Do step 2.B.(22) again, if necessary. Adjust the thickness of the spacers until this
requirement is met.
(31) With the clutch still locked up, slowly increase the voltage to the coil until the teeth
engage. The teeth shall engage with less than 14 V dc applied.

(33) Set the current to 320 mA, with the clutch still in fixture. Use a 300 lb--in. (33.89 NSm)
torque wrench to apply 150 lb--in. (16.95 NSm) of torque in four equally--spaced
positions in both cw and ccw directions. The clutch shall not slip in either cw or ccw
directions.

(36) Install spacer (6) on shaft (36) and temporarily attach with a piece of tape.

(37) Install end cover (3 or 3A) by pressing on over splined shaft (135) against the clutch
body.

PRODUCTION CRITICAL IN THE ANALYSIS ARE CHANGED TO
AIRWORTHINESS CRITICAL IN THIS MANUAL. IT IS NECESSARY TO DO
THESE PROCEDURES AND TESTS TO GET THE APPROVED RESULTS.
USE THE ILLUSTRATED PARTS LIST TO IDENTIFY ALL CORRECT
CRITICAL PARTS. MAKE SURE THAT THE CORRECT PARTS ARE
INSTALLED IN STEP 3.J.
(1) For units other than --94X and --95X, install transmitter synchro B1 (150 or 150A,
IPL Figure 1 thru IPL Figure 1B) on retaining plate (300 or 305) and attach with three
clamps (305), lock washers (140), and screws (135).
(2) For units other than --94X and --95X, insert transmitter synchro B1 (150 or 150A)
leads through grommet (310) and install on terminals (315) on retaining plate (300 or
305). Refer to Table 7003.

A PRODUCTION CRITICAL ITEM. DURING INSTALLATION OF GEAR
(210, 215, 220, 225, 230, OR 235) AND KEY (205) IT IS POSSIBLE TO
INDUCE TOO MUCH PRESSURE ON ONE OF THE INTERNAL CLUTCH
BEARINGS BY OVER--TORQUING NUTS (195). TOO MUCH PRESSURE
CAN DECREASE THE LIFE OF THE BEARING.
CAUTION: DO NOT HONE MACHINE KEY (205). KEY MUST BE A PRESS FIT TO
FUNCTION CORRECTLY.
NOTE: Clutches made by Dynamics Instrument Corporation have a snapring on

which the above gear seats.
NOTE: Clutches made by Electro Components, Honeywell Inc., Space and Aviation
Systems, have a spacer on which the above gear seats.
NOTE: If clutch L1, gear, or key has been replaced, the mating fit must be such that
a press fit is necessary to seat key.
(5) Apply a thin film of grease (HMN 6105378) to the key slot on clutch (245 or 249) shaft
and the mating surface of machine key (205). Press the key into the groove of the
clutch shaft, and make sure the key end is flush against the spacer. Make sure the
key is flat against the bottom of the groove. Apply a thin coat of grease to entire
clutch shaft and end of T3075273 gear insertion tool. Put flat washer (200) on the
shaft next to the gear. Drive the gear slowly onto the shaft with gear insertion tool
until the gear is seated against the spacer.
(a) Remove the gear insertion tool and assemble nuts (195) to the shaft.
(b) Tighten inside nut against the washer, and tighten outside nut against the inside
nut.
(c) Safety wire outside nut to the shaft, and tie off at the shaft. Dress flat and make
sure safety wire does not go around corner of nut.
(6) Install grommet (310) in retaining plate (300 or 305).
(7) Insert clutch L1 (249) leads through grommet (310) and install and solder on
terminals 1 and 2 of retaining plate (300 or 305). Tie clutch L1 (249) leads to the
clutch body with lacing tape.
CAUTION: IF BEARINGS WERE REMOVED DURING DISASSEMBLY, THEY MUST BE

DISCARDED AND REPLACED DURING ASSEMBLY. BEARINGS CAN BE
DAMAGED DURING DISASSEMBLY.
(8) Press bearings (155, 160, 165) into retaining plate (300 or 305).
(9) Press bearings (155, 165) into housing (320, 325, or 327).
(10) For units other than --94X and --95X, install gear (120, 125, or 130) on the synchro
transmitter B1 (150 or 150A, IPL Figure 1 thru IPL Figure 1B) shaft and attach with
setscrew supplied with gear.

(11) Apply a liberal amount of silicone thermal compound (HMN 6104278) to mounting
surfaces of motor/tachometer MG1 (175, IPL Figure 1 thru IPL Figure 1D). Use care
to avoid getting compound on mounting hardware. Install motor MG1 (175) in
housing (320, 325, or 327) and attach with four screws (170) from inside the housing.
(12) Cut motor MG1 (175) shielded cable to 6 inches. Slip splice (178) onto the cable.
Strip 2 inches of insulation from the cable to expose the ground shield. Trim the
ground shield to 3/16--in (4.76 mm) length. Solder WHT--BLK--ORN wire coming from
J1--K to the cable ground shield.
(13) Insert motor MG1 (175) leads through the hole in housing (320, 325, or 327) and
attach with loop clamp (190), flat washer (185), and screw (180).
(14) For units without Mod F, install connector J1 (270) with lead assembly (265) in
housing (320, 325, or 327) and attach with four screws (250 or 250B).
(15) For units with Mod F, install gasket (280) and connector J1 (270) with lead assembly
(265) and attach with four screws (250 or 250B) and retaining plate (262).
(16) For --94X and --95X units, strip, tin, and install, one each, nipples (290, IPL Figure 1C
or IPL Figure 1D) on WHT--ORN and BRN leads of cable assembly (272).
(17) For --94X and --95X units, place gasket (280) and then mounting plate (263 or 263A)
inside housing (327) behind cable hole and attach with four screws (250) from the
outside of the housing.
(18) For --94X and --95X units, insert cable assembly (272, IPL Figure 1C) through hole in
mounting plate (263 or 263A) along with grommet (strain relief) (275) and adjust
length of cable protruding from the housing to 12 ± 0.5 in. (30.48 ± 1.27 cm) and
attach with the strain relief.
(19) For --94X and --95X units, cut a single WHT--BLK--ORN AWG 24 wire to six inches
long. Strip and tin 3/16 in. (4.76 mm) on one end of cut wire. Solder tinned end of
wire to cable assembly (272, IPL Figure 1C) ground shield (271A).
(20) Except for clutch L1 (249, IPL Figure 1 thru IPL Figure 1D) leads, sleeve when
necessary, install and solder all remaining component, lead, and bus wires, as shown
in Table 2002 and Table 2003. Install clutch L1 wires to connector J1 (270,
IPL Figure 1 thru IPL Figure 1B or IPL Figure 1D, 270 or 271D, IPL Figure 1C) as
shown in Table 2005.
(21) Attach lead assembly (265, IPL Figure 1 thru IPL Figure 1B or IPL Figure 1D) to
retaining plate (300 or 305, IPL Figure 1 thru IPL Figure 1D) with clamp (115), flat
washer (110), and screw (105). Tie lead assembly, including two unused leads, in two
places with lacing tape.
(22) Lightly apply grease to all gear passes. Preload antibacklash gears by aligning marks
on gears, and install gears (60, 65, or 70), (30, 35, 40, 45, 50, or 55), and (75) in
bearings (155, 160, 165) in retaining plate (300 or 305).
(23) Mate housing (320, 325, or 327) to retaining plate (300 or 305), aligning bearings,
gear shafts, and pin (320A and 320B or 325A and 325B or 327A and 327B). Attach
the plate to the housing with two screws (25).
(24) Test the Servo Drive in accordance with TESTING AND FAULT ISOLATION.

1. Overview

(1) The IPL gives the parts that are used to make the product identified on the title page
(T–1). It also supplies the necessary data to get replacement parts for repair and fault
isolation.
(2) The list of parts is given in general disassembly sequence. The illustrations show
where you can find each part and are an important aid in disassembly and assembly
procedures.
B. How to Find a Part
(1) If the Part Number is known, refer to the Numerical Index to find the figure and item
numbers in the Parts List.
(2) If the equipment designator is known, refer to the Equipment Designator Index to find
the figure and item numbers in the Parts List.
(3) After you get the figure and item number, refer to the Parts List for more identification
data.
2. Contents of the IPL

A. List of Suppliers
(1) The names and addresses of companies that supply the items included in the Parts
List are shown in the List of Suppliers. Refer to List of Suppliers, paragraph 3.
(2) The supplier CAGE code is given in the Nomenclature column of the Parts List to
identify the supplier.
B. Equipment Designator Index
(1) The Equipment Designator Index is an alphanumeric list of the equipment

designators given to the subassemblies and electrical/electronic parts. The
designators are an aid to identify parts on the schematics and wiring diagrams. Refer
to Equipment Designator Index, paragraph 4.
(2) Each entry in the Equipment Designator Index identifies the figure and item numbers
where the part is found in the Parts List. The Equipment Designator Index may also
identify a geographical location of the equipment designator found on the graphic
illustration. A hyphen between two designators shows a continuous sequence of
designators (example: A1--A5 is the same as A1 thru A5).

STORAGE (INCLUDING TRANSPORTATION)

1. Overview
A. General
(1) Use these instructions to prepare the Servo Drive for storage or transportation.
(2) Make sure the Servo Drive is protected from dust, moisture, and other contamination.
(3) Whenever possible, repackage the unit in the original package material.
(4) When more than one item is being shipped, place a quantity of packaged items in a
close-fit box.
(5) When equipment is sent to Honeywell for warranty repair, use the approved ATA
container, or equivalent. Refer to the Handling, Storage, and Shipping Procedures for
Honeywell Avionics Equipment Instruction Manual, Honeywell Pub. No.
A09--1100--001, Section 2, paragraph D and Section 3, paragraph 7, for full
instructions on shipping and storage of the Servo Drive.
(1) No equipment is necessary.
2. Procedure
PROCEDURES.
A. Storage Procedure
(1) If the Servo Drive must be in storage for a long time, keep it in a location with a
temperature range of --20 to +131 _F (--30 to +55 _C).
