Painting
Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh
The Starry Night is an oil-on-canvas painting by the Dutch Post-Impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh.
Painted in June 1889, it depicts the view from the east-facing window of his asylum room at Saint-Rémy-
de-Provence, just before sunrise, with the addition of an imaginary village. During the painting of Starry
Night, Van Gogh was admitted to an asylum for cutting his ear, try to paint it. During that time mental
health was not given importance. Van Gogh having the distinct painting of impressionism and suffering
from a disease which inflicts him vertigo and deafness was not really given attention. The starry Night is
a means of Van Gogh’s escape from reality, pouring all of his impression on his work. It is very far style
from the classic painting that rules during his time. The painting was interpreted as failure. For during that
time nobody really appreciates his works.
Style of Art: Impressionism
Name and Style of Artist: Vincent Van Gogh, Post Impression Style
Meaning of Art: “Failure”
Own impression and note to masterpiece:
One of the most beautiful art work for me, “Starry Night” is quite a beauty of its own. Far from
traditional painting during the era it was made, Van Gogh is indeed a master of his craft. The
starry night showed Van Gogh’s imaginative mind, painting it despite being not having a view
outside his room during the time he stayed at the asylum. Fan Gogh may describe Starry Night as
a failure but there is beauty in failure in which we learn and grew into a more beautiful and lovely
being.
Drawing
Vitruvian Man
A drawing made by the Italian polymath Leonardo da Vinci in about 1490, it is accompanied by notes
based on the work of the Roman architect Vitruvius. The drawing, which is in ink on paper, depicts a man
in two superimposed positions with his arms and legs apart and inscribed in a circle and square. Da
Vinci’s image demonstrates the blend of mathematics and art during the Renaissance and demonstrates his
deep understanding of proportion. In addition, the picture represents a cornerstone of his attempts to relate man
to nature. He believed the workings of the human body to be an analogy for the workings of the universe.

In this photo, Charles Clifford posed each member individually, taking care to display their costumes to
best advantage. Particularly striking is the dashing younger man at the edge of the group, whose rakish
presence is enhanced by his loosely draped black cloak and the shadow of his stylish wide-brimmed hat.

A photo of Spanish people wearing their stylish costume, it was taken back at 1800s where

by. A photo of history, a visual representation of what people in Spain used to be. A cultural
heritage is prominent in this image and such factor gives more value on this art piece.

Own impression and note to masterpiece:
Venus De Milo is a sculpture built during Hellenistic period. The sculpture depicts the goddess of
beauty. Although missing both of its arm, the sculpture is a beauty to behold. It is the
embodiment of a real woman, with its flabs and imperfection, perfect with its own imperfection.
The sculpture shows the talent of sculptor during Hellenistic period is already superior, imitating
even the smallest detail of woman.
