purpose for the  Class, before we start our discussion, let me ask you a few questions. Who
lesson among you here is familiar with the different parts of speech? Do you recognize
the terms "nouns,” yes or no? How about “adjectives” and “adverbs"?
 Alright, I think you already grasped that concept. Now, the next question is: are
you familiar with decoding symbols, pictures and letters into sentences? Let’s
find out!

for us to better understand this game, let me read the mechanics. So, for our
mechanics, in this activity, your task is to form a sentence by decoding the
symbols, pictures, numbers, and letters that serve as your clues. After decoding
your sentence, you may raise your hand; the first student who decodes the
right answer will receive 3 class points.
 Alright, thank you so much for your participation. I guess we are all ready for
our analysis”
D. Discussing new Analysis: The teacher processes the activity by discussing the students’ answers to the
concepts and following question:
practicing new skills 1. Based on the activity that we have conducted earlier, do you observe
#1 something that is similar to all sentences? If does, what are those?
2. What do you think is the purpose of the word “to” in a sentence?
3. Since you have already learned the concept of gerunds, and participle what do
you think will be our topic for today?
E. Discussing new Abstraction: The teacher will discuss the definitions and corresponding key concepts of
concepts and the infinitives. The discussion is aided by a PowerPoint presentation as teaching
practicing new skills materials/ tools and interactive discussion.
#2
 Now, let’s begin our discussion by defining “Infinitives”

 Infinitives are one of the three verbals that look like a verb but do not
function as a verb. Instead, infinitives are used as noun, adjective or an
adverb.
 They are constructed by adding “to” before a verb in its base form.

FORMULA: TO + BASE VERB

Examples:
 To achieve his goal is not easy.
 Ali’s dream is to study abroad.
 His hobby is to study.
 His teacher agreed to check his essay for him.
 Max is working hard to earn money.

THREE FUNCTIONS OF INFINITIVES

 Infinitives as a Noun
 Infinitives as a Adjective
 Infinitives as a Adverb

INFINITIVES AS AN NOUN
 An infinitive can act as a noun, appearing as the subject or direct object of a
sentence.
 It can also appear as a subject complement, which provides information about
the subject, following a linking verb (such as is) in the predicate of a sentence.

 Subject: To dream requires incredible courage. [Something requires courage.]

 Direct object: He wanted to cry. [He wanted something.]

 Subject complement: Our aim is to improve. [Our aim is something.]

INFINITIVES AS AN ADJECTIVE
 Infinitives can also be placed after any noun in a sentence, acting as an
adjective.
 Describing a Subject: The best person to consult is your counselor [whom you
should consult].
 Describing an Object: The teacher assigned several exercises to complete
[exercises that must be completed]

INFINITIVES AS AN ADVERB
 Infinitives can also be adverbial, modifying any verb in a sentence. These
infinitives tell the reader why the action is necessary.
 Note that the infinitive can either precede or follow the main clause of a
sentence: it is movable.
 Before Main Clause: To do well in college, one must study diligently. After Main
 Clause: We tell stories to teach lessons.
