The Amazon Rainforest has long been known as the lungs of the Earth with its huge
diversity of plant life. With that, it became the habitat of millions of species and home
for indigenous tribes in Brazil. These species and people thrive everyday, living in
prosperity with what the rainforest could offer and in return, they too are entitled to
protect the area.
Over the years, the withstanding rainforest, abundant with diversified trees is now
experiencing degradation. Several unfavorable acts caused by acquisitive people has
put the rainforest and its inhabitants at a great risk of endangerment. The primary
cause of this degradation is deforestation. In a span of several years, it is very evident
how this purposeful act of cutting the trees has made a decline in the areas of the
forest which was covered with trees has now become a converted area for urban use.
This has become a major concern for the tribes specifically the Karipuna tribe living
in the rainforest as per years of settling in the rainforest, they too have experienced the
relentless actions of the people trying to transform the area into something that is only
beneficial for them. According to the article, there has been a significant increase in
the percentage of deforestation after the inauguration of President Bolsonaro. This has
positioned the rainforest into its tipping point and could reach to a time where its
effects could be irreversible. The surging deforestation has also led to scorching fires
often carried out to illegally claim land and to clear and prepare areas for ranching
and agricultural production. The tribes who had preserved the rainforest for years, are
also now concerned for their well-being as there have been cases reported for killing
their members due to the greedy power of the people wanting to take over the land.
These tribes were given the right to fight for their land which was also recognized by
the Brazilian Government but is still facing the surrounding actions of invaders. Due
to the lack of government support, the Karipuna tribe has now taken actions on their
own and continues to fight for their well-being as well as of the rainforest.
Knowing all of these issues faced by the Amazon Rainforest and its inhabitants, it is
very important the we too, concerned people of the environment, should take actions
for this problem as we're also experiencing the effects of deforestation. Climate
change, pollution, drought and among other threatening effects towards the rainforest,
to the animals, and to us people should be addressed and a course of action should be
immediately implemented. We should work together in combating this issue,
collaborate with major institutions and organizations internationally concerned with
the preservation of the environment and natural resources, regulate more effective
rules and laws, and make our own actions such us conducting programs in our
communities and even practicing simple ways in helping our environment. The future
of the planet, not just on the Amazon Rainforest concerns all of us and we have the
responsibility of preserving and protecting it. What we take should only be enough for
the environment to recompensate and never maximizing something out of it that
makes it hard to regenerate again.
