Morse Code Challenge - Booklet

This document provides instructions for a Morse code challenge activity where scouts use notebooks to compete against a computer by listening to and typing morse code signals. Nearly every scout knows games using morse code. Here you can challenge your morse code
practice against a computer. A funny game for beginners as well as specialists…

14. Before the activity

All equipment is stored at Uncle Sams Cabin.

Initial procedure:
1.) Boot up the Notebook
2.) Reset Score list:

a. open explorer,
b. open c:\morse
c. if there is a a file „Score.txt“ rename it to „Score001.txt“ and following
„Score002.txt“ etc.
d. copy „Score-start.txt“ in the same folder
e. rename the „Kopie von Score-start.txt“ into „Score.txt“
f. close the explorer
3.) Open the „Dosbox“ on the desktop
4.) Type: mount c: c:\morse
5.) Type: c:
6.) Type Morse
7.) [Alt] + [Enter] to move to Fullscreen-Modus.

15. Instructions

For Scouts:
Compete against the computer:
You will hear a letter in morse code and also see the dots and dashes on the screen.
Than you have to type the right letter – be fast, the time is limited. The further you get, the
faster it becomes.
[F10] starts the game and continues after a failure.
[F8] to see the list of the last 10 players.
Do NOT press [F7] ! Just leave it as it is.
When reaching at least score 6 meet the radio scouting staff for your approval.

For Radio Scouting Staff:


After 10 challenge-runs reset the Score list:
1.) [Alt] + [Enter] to move from Fullscreen-Modus to normal
2.) [F7] to end the game
3.) Reset Score list:
a. open explorer,
b. open c:\morse
c. rename „Score.txt“ to „Score001.txt“ and following „Score002.txt“ etc.
d. copy „Score-start.txt“ in the same folder
e. rename the „Kopie von Score-start.txt“ into „Score.txt“
f. close the explorer
4.) Type Morse in the Dosbox
5.) [Alt] + [Enter] to move to Fullscreen-Modus again.
