The book, “Is there really a human race”, by Jaime Lee Curtis, states a boy who asks a

series of questions,” “is there pushing and shoving to get to a lead” “is there unfair?
Will I succeed?” It shows children have endless questions and are willing to
understand everything. How to guide children on the right track and cultivate their
values are critical issues. The answers to these questions lead them to recognize the
world surrounding them and appreciate our beautiful world which is made up of all
kinds of differences. Meanwhile, his mom’s answers calm him down as lots of
questions pop out. “Sometimes it is better not to go faster, there are beautiful sights to
be seen when you last.” It conveys a message that when facing difficulties or failure,
you also have different views and experiences without rushing yourself. Besides, it
makes our life colorful and meaningful when people help each other, working
collaboratively, showing your sincerity, and getting a deep insight into the beautiful
world.

I think cultivating children with perspective needs a long time. As an ECE, we can
organize different theme activities that convey the information, teamwork,
appreciation of different scenarios and others’ views. For example, on Monday, we
can put a large piece of paper on the table to let children draw the place they went to
at the weekend. When drawing, they will describe the scenario they visited and get to
know the place where others went and share their information. Another activity I
prefer is to keep a ball in a box, Children hold the big box with the lower edge. To
keep the ball in the center, they have to tilt the box and hold it steadily. This activity
lets children know they are all important. Teamwork requires them to cooperate,
which benefits them to establish solid skills in problem-solving, communication, and
self-esteem.
