I would like to study Production Arts at University as I am excited and interested in working
with microphones, lighting, sound and set changes as well as making sure the cast get on
stage safely. My aim is to work within a theatre environment working with the backstage
crew when monitoring the microphones, lighting, sound, set changes and props too. During
my time at Culcheth High School, I was involved in the backstage performance of the show
‘Reimagined of OZ’. Within this performance my role was backstage where I had to monitor
the microphones, lighting, sound and set changes as well as making sure the cast arrived on
stage safely. I knew from this experience what my chosen career was for the future. From
this experience I took my studies further and I am now currently studying towards a level 3
qualification in Media studies, the course is called UAL Creative Media in Production and
Technology. During this course, I have developed my communication skills as I had to
communicate effectively with my peers when being the director of a short film called Lost. I
did this by being able to explain briefly to my peers what I needed them to do when filming
each individual shot for my short film. Within this course, I have also developed my
leadership skills as I had to lead my actors to act out the scenes for my short film. I did this
by creating a shot list and following each shot one by one and briefly being descriptive
towards my peers with what I needed them to do. I have learnt how to effectively analyse
different media products and analyse different codes and conventions before creating my
own media product. This helped me as I gained the knowledge, understanding and skills of
professional media products before creating my own media product. Within this course, I
have learnt to create different media products such as: Short films, podcasts, music videos
and creating my own music artist website. These are all different media products and are all
different styles of media that make up different industries within the media. Within my
course, I have really enjoyed the experience of being able to work with a DSLR camera and
being able to have the opportunity to develop my filming skills when taking a variety of
different shots from a variety of different angles to create my own short film and music video.
Within my course, I also really enjoyed the experience of being able to work with a Zoom
recorder to record my own podcast which was based on cooking as the special guest that
joined me on the podcast was a qualified chef. When creating a podcast, I had to pick a topic
that I am passionate about and that also the guest is passionate about which meant that I
had the opportunity to develop my confidence skills as I had to interact with the qualified chef
to answer my questions, she was able to talk to me about her previous experiences when
working within the cooking industry as her first job. I have also gained experience during my
time at Culcheth High school, as I developed my team working skills as I had to work as a
team to manage the microphones backstage for the cast as well as managing the lighting
and sounds. I really enjoyed this experience because it gave me the opportunity and it
familiarised me with the necessary skills that I will need for my future career in production
arts. During my time at Culcheth High School, I achieved three different personal
achievements that I am proud of as I won three different awards in My final year at Culcheth
High School. The first achievement was the Patrick Wilson Award For Endeavour and I
received this award because I got bullied at school and continued to go even when I found it
very hard. I got this award for always continuing to never give up when facing difficulties
within school life. The second achievement was the Asdan Alternative Provision award. I
won this award because I stayed focused in my lessons and outside of school when I was
working towards a separate qualification called the John Muir Award. This was a course that
was designed to get students out of the classroom that struggle to stay focused for longer
periods of time and it gave me the break I needed. The third achievement I received was
The Headteachers award, this was for always showing a positive attitude towards my studies
and for always having a smile on my face and for trying my hardest even when I didn't find
school easy. My plans for the future are to get a career within the Production Arts industry. I
would also like to get some work experience when working in the Production arts industry as
this will provide me with the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding that I will need
in order to work within this career. I am committed to studying this course because It would
be ideal for me to develop my understanding, skills and knowledge further.
