IGNITION
1. General
Ignition system is used to provide electric spark to ignite the air-fuel mixture. It is used in the
initial stage of engine start. It has flame-out protection function. Aircraft is designed with air
ignition switch which is used for engine start in the air and flight under complicate weather
conditions.
Ignition is divided into ground start ignition, air ignition and EEC automatic ignition.
2. System Description
A. Ground start ignition
Ground start ignition is controlled by the start button on the engine start control panel, and
the ignition power is supplied by the ground power supply, aircraft battery or APU.
Engine start control panel is located at the overhead control panel of the cockpit, Ref. Fig
001.
B. Air ignition
Air ignition is controlled by the air ignition switch. When an engine in the air works and
another engine will be started, the generator on the engine which works will supply the
ignition power supply; when two engines fail and engine start in the air is required, the
ignition power will be supplied by the battery.
C. EEC automatic ignition
When the high-pressure rotor is reduced in case of flame-out indication of engine, EEC
can detect it and send continuous ignition signal. EEC automatic ignition function will be
lost in case of feathering.
3. Component Description
Ignition system includes aircraft power cable, 1 ignition exciter, 2 high elasticity wires and 2
ignition electric nozzles cooled by air. Ignition exciter is located at the right side of front inlet
casing of engine, and the ignition electric nozzles cooled by air is located at the 5 and 7
o’clock positions of fuel generator. Ref. Fig 002.

A. Ground start ignition (LH engine start as an example)
Set the start select switch (02K) to the “L START”, and then press the “START” button
light (08K) on the engine start control panel. In this case, the relay (12K) works. After the
relay (12K) is actuated, the relay (10K) works. After which left igniter (14K) works, and left
engine is ignited.
B. Air Ignition (LH engine start as an example)
After the LH air ignition switch (06K) is connected, the LH engine igniter (14K) starts to
work, and the LH engine will be ignited.
C. EEC automatic ignition (LH engine start as an example)
When the high-pressure rotor is reduced between 30% and 64% in case of flame-out
indication of engine, the C port of left engine EEC will produce a low level signal, and the
LH automatic ignition relay (22K) will work. After which the left igniter (14K) works, and
left engine is ignited.
Schematic diagram of ignition circuit is as shown in Fig 003. When the ignition system
works, two ignition plugs will work simultaneously.

DISTRIBUTION
1. General
Distribution system distributes the high voltage produced by ignition exciter to the igniter
which will ignite the air-fuel mixture in the engine combustion chambers.
2. System Description
Distribution system includes cable and igniter (2 for single engine, Ref. Fig 001) behind
ignition exciter.
