Retirement Should Be An Enjoyable Experience
Retirement is supposed to be an enjoyable experience. Most seniors hope that their
lifestyles will continue in the same fashion as it is at the time of retirement. Retirement
is anticipated as a time of more leisure, a time for slowing down from the daily rat race
and enjoying life. Many retirees hope to take advantage of the opportunity to embrace a
simpler lifestyle and experience less stress. Unfortunately, for many, this turns out to not
be the case.
Although some retirees have planned adequately for retirement, many are ill prepared.
The statistics, when viewed, are alarming. Only 53 percent of workers have retirement
plans and only 48 percent actually participate in a 401(k) or retirement program offered
by their employer. Some thirty eight million, approximately 45 percent of current
households with working age individuals, state that they have no retirement savings at
all. The median retirement account balance is $3,000 for most working age households
with and without retirement accounts and $12,000 for near retirement households.
(Farmer, 2015) (Carlozo, 2014) Even for those who do have a 401k, IRA or other
retirement fund, the median balance at retirement is $120,000. That may sound like a
lot, but for the typical household, that amounts to only $400 a month. (Sherter, 2014)
There are various reasons seniors might not have a retirement fund. A significant reason,

Mother Daughter Relationship In Amy Tan s The Joy Luck
One of the main themes in The Joy Luck Club, is the relationship between mother and
daughter, because the entire story revolves around the sacrifices made by mothers for
their daughters, even going so far as to sacrificing a literal piece of them selves to give
their mother a small boost of time in life. In this essay I will be conveying the theme of
motherdaughter relationships through real world and literature comparing. In the joy
luck club, a daughter is recalling the stories about her mother s past seeing how much
she gave up for her in the stories she s been told. Seeing how her mother wished for her
to be able to have a life without sorrow unlike her own. Though her daughter only
realizes all this after her mother dies. We learn that
Life Of Pi Religion Essay
In his novel, Life of Pi, Yann Martel (2001) conveys a complex story of religious
encounters that takes place within Pi s unconscious mind. Faith is especially vital to
Pi during the worst of times, as the three religions he has learned, Islam, Hinduism and
Christianity, give Pi guidance during his traumatic journey. Throughout the course of
the narrative, Pi is stranded in the middle of the Pacific Ocean on a lifeboat with a
Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. An essential portion of the novel is revealed to us
when Pi finds himself yelling at the ocean, which represents God. This passage is
significant because Pi begins to lose hope in surviving until he comes upon a free
floating island the next day. Some readers may recognize the island... Show more content

Green is often used as decoration of Mosques in the Islamic religion, and represents
nature and life. Once Pi arrives on the island, he feels comfort when exposed to the
colour of green. For instance, since the trees continued to stand, I continued to look.
To take in green, after so much blue, was like music to my eyes (Martel 285). This
quote demonstrates how the sight of the trees amaze Pi which increase his faith in
surviving and ultimately leads him deciding to stay longer on the island. As Pi adjusts
to his new surroundings, he begins to see how Allah has come to save him. For
example, after some minutes I crept up to the side of the boat ... well, this was green. In
fact, it was chlorophyll heaven (286). This quote shows that Allah has presented himself
in the form of an island, compelling Pi to find strength within to survive. The very green
island, signifying a safe heaven for Pi, creates happiness and rebirth in way that an
actual Elysium would. In summary, the Island takes the role of Allah, as Pi would have
not been able to survive without the colour green and the optimistic effects it had on
