PRACTICAL 7:
RICE COMBINE HARVESTER
LECTURER:
DR. WAN FAZILAH FAZLIL ILAHI
B. MATERIALS
1. A mini rice combine harvester.
C. METHODS
1. Briefing on the handling the combine harvester procedure, and comparision with the larger
combine harvester.
2. Demonstration by the instructor.
3. Briefing on steps using the combine harvester.
4. Safety tips.
D. TASK
Watch the two videos for mini rice combine harvester (model: Kubota Sr55) as this model is
the one we have in TPU. You may also watch other rice combine harvester in youtube to
answer the questions.
1. Is this combine harvester suitable to be used in the rice field in Malaysia? Why?
No, this model which is Kubota Sr55 is not suitable to be used in Malaysia. It is
because Malaysia paddy field is depth with water the soil under the paddy field make
the rubber track stuck and affect the component inside.
The header cuts off the plant close to the ground and moves the whole plant into the
machine. Farmers switch out the header depending on if they are harvesting corn,
soybeans or other crops. The cut crops move toward the center via spinning augers
and travel up a conveyor.
3. List all the process involve in a rice combine harvester.
In a rice combine harvester, it combines many processes that can be done by only using
this machine. The processes are:
Yes, this combine harvester machine will be more effective and can suit well to use as rice
harvester at Malaysia’s paddy field if the rubber crawl track can be adjusting by increasing
the high. So that this combine harvester can be use smoothly and widely on various type of
paddy plants without stuck at the engine.
5. How to increase the Effective Field Efficiency of this small combine harvester as
compare to the 8 tan capacity?
The ways to increase effective field efficiency of this small combine harvester is increase the
speed of the combine harvester. Based on the study, Zubko et al. (2018) reported that the
productivity of winter wheat grain yield increased by 49% when Forward Speed increased
from 3 to 6 km/h. next, we can increase the reaping width also can increase the field
efficiency of the combine harvester. However, based on the study, Mohamad Hairi Masroon
et al. (2020) reported that good practice in harvesting operation could improve field
performance, and minimize operational cost and energy consumption.
