4. Concreteness- being specific
 Having effective communication skills in English is 5. Completeness- 5 W’s and 1 H
important for success  Channel- through what medium the message is
relayed
Definition:
 Receiver- to whom it is directed
 Commun implies something in common  Effect- what the desired result of communication is
 Ication suggests understanding
 A common understanding of something (Chase and
Samo, 2013)

 “Simultaneous sharing and creating of meaning


through human symbolic interaction” (Seiler and
Beall, 1999)
 “A systematic process in which individuals interact
with and through symbols to create and interpret
meanings” (Wood, 2004)

The Communication Process

 context = situation
 It includes the following:
o The environment (location, time of the day,
temperature)
o The relationship between communicators
o Respective cultural backgrounds and past
experiences
o Topic/ subject of their communication

 Message- what the idea being communicated says

5 C’S of Communication

1. Courtesy- politeness
