Vaginal Swab Testing

This document provides guidelines for vaginal swab laboratory testing based on a patient's symptoms and risk factors. Asymptomatic patients with no STI risk do not require testing, while those with STI risk or symptoms receive different tests. For asymptomatic patients with STI risk, only a chlamydia/gonorrhea test is considered; symptomatic patients without risk receive a vaginal swab culture and gram stain if indicated by symptoms; and symptomatic patients with risk receive a full panel of STI tests plus culture. The guidelines specify appropriate tests based on a patient's reported clinical details.
