Seer Suckering
The crinkled effect is achieved through a weaving method known as slack warp
tension.
Seersucker is the quintessential warm-weather fabric known for its crinkled texture
and breezy quality.
Seersucker’s texture creates a space between the skin and the fabric that helps
improve heat dissipation and promote air circulation, making it perfect for summer
dresses, suits, pants, and jackets.

Features / Characteristics of seersucker Fabric
As the filling yarns are woven in, the tight yarns form the flat
stripe and the loose tension yarns buckle to form the puckered or
crinkled stripe.
Commonly, the stripes are different colors but the fabric can be a solid
color.
Cotton is the most common fiber used in making seer sucker; however, it
is also made from wool, silk, polyester, rayon, acetate, and blends.
On the loom, alternating sets of yarns have different tension. Some yarns
are held tight and others are held loose.

Principle of manufacturing seersucker fabric
As the filling yarns are woven in, the tight yarns form the flat stripe
and the loose tension yarns buckle to form the puckered or crinkled
stripe.
The alkali will cause the fabric to shrink in the printed area.

Direct Plisse Finish (contd.)
If the print pattern is a parallel stripe, the resulting fabric will have a
seersucker appearance.
The application can be direct where the alkali is printed onto the
fabric, followed by dwell time on a conveyor belt to allow for
reaction.

Fitted Plisse Finish
A resin is applied to fabrics like cotton in order for the heat set imprint to
remain permanent.
Seersucker fabric is woven in such a way that some threads bunch together, giving the
fabric a wrinkled appearance in places. This feature causes the fabric to be mostly held
away from the skin when worn, facilitating heat dissipation and air circulation. It also
means that pressing is not necessary.
Seersucker is a popular lightweight fabric widely used in;
Men’s and women’s suiting,
Shirts, dresses
Casual sportswear
Children’s clothing
House robes
Slipcovers and
Bedspreads.
Today’s fashion trends also incorporate seersucker’s puckered look in knit wear.

Uses Of Plisse Fabric
Plisse is a popular choice for warm weather clothing and is often used for
summer wedding gowns. Because the plisse fabric pulls away from the
wearer, which allows air to circulate through the clothing, this facilitates
the dissipation of heat.
Like all distinctive fabrics, plisse should be worn carefully. It should also be paired
with smooth textures for contrast. It is a relatively easy fabric to care for as it does
not require ironing; however pains should be taken to follow laundering
instructions as the finish can be ruined by some cleaning methods and
recommendations vary depending on the type of fabric.
