Articulatory Phonetics:
❖ It is a subfield of phonetics that studies articulation and ways
that humans produce speech.
❖ It undertakes the study of the organs of speech; the positions
and movements of the lips, tongue, vocal tract, and other
speech organs for the production of sounds
❖ To a certain extent, it also deals with the sound system of a
language.

Speech articulators
The main speech articulators are the tongue, the upper lip,
the lower lip, the upper teeth, the upper teeth ridge (alveolar
ridge), the hard palate, the velum (soft palate), the uvula ,
the pharyngeal wall, and the glottis(space between the vocal
cords).
The airstream necessary for the production of speech sounds
is produced by the lungs.
