After high school, Disney wanted to join the army but was too young, so he joined the Red Cross and drove an ambulance in France for a year. Walter Elias Disney, also known as Walt Disney, was born on December 5, 1901,
in the Hermosa section of Chicago, Illinois. His father was Elias Disney, an Irish-
Canadian and his mother, Flora Call Disney, was German-American. Disney was
one of five children, four boys and a girl.

produced three cartoons featuring a new character Walt had been developing
