INTRODUCTION

They call me the coach’s coach. I’ve been involved in the coaching

professionsinceitsinceptioninthe90s. Aftermorethantwodecadesof

coachingclients (alsoknown ascoachees),teachingcoaching,mentoring,

presenting atcoachingevents,andserving as anexaminerforcoaching

certificationprograms,IrealizeditwastimetosharewhatIlearned.

Overtheyears,I’veobservedwell-intentioned,intelligentpeopleenterthe

attract clients, or they weren’t able to maintain long-term coaching

relationships.I’velistenedtothousandsofhoursofcoachingfromgroup

sameproblemsrepeatedly,particularly getting seducedbytheclient’sstory,

failing to get to the root of the problem, and focusing on results.

Accordingly, I devised methods to help coaches avoid these common
