1. The General-Specific (GS) texts can have some features that can be found not only a
small structures, such as paragraphs, but also in a larger statement, which may include
sections of paragraphs and even a whole text. The GS texts are commonly
represented as texts, or pieces of texts that goes from general idea and goes to a
specific one and this can explain the term “general-specific”.
This structure of starting with a general statement and developing until the specific
topic can be observed when we analyze such texts. These GS texts may present a short
or extended definition, a general statement about the topic, which can also include
some statistics at the beginning. All of these features are important firstly to
familiarize the reader to the content of the text, or just to work as an introduction of
an analysis, for example. In addition to this fact, when the text become more specific,
it tends to became broader again, because from now on the author will develop the
topic.
2. Topic: translation studies
Definition:
The field of linguistics that cover the study of translation, its process and relation to
social Science and other humanities areas. Likewise, It is usually analyzed in academic
context. In this field of study not the text is studied but also the translator and ts
choices.
General statements: Nowadays people are connected to each other by a a result of
what is as known as globalization. The process of translating something from one
language to another became very helpful and necessary. Thereby, by translating a text
from one language to another language requires some attention to the professional,
otherwise we can identify some problems with the initial idea of a text and its real
meaning.
Quotation: The “translator studies”, as mentioned by Chesterman (2017), can have
other areas of analysis in order to better understand the translator’s decision-making
process. Although the studies on this field may include the words choice, other areas
such as sociology, history and sometimes economics are relevant when we analyze and
investigate this phenomenon.
Statitics: The English language is generally described as the “world language”. About
20% of the world’s population speak English, although not all of this percentage
presents this language as the mother tongue. Approximately 1.3 billion people speak
English but “only” 360 million are native speakers. The process of translation from one
language to another, specially with the advent of globalization -which make people
Interact with people of many different places by using or not a common language -
made the translation studies developed even more in the last decades and even with
this popularization of the English language, the translation studies become very
relevant nowadays.

4. The translation studies can be defined as the area in linguistics that works with the
process of analyzing how the translation happened from a certain language to
another. In addition to this fact, Chesterman (2017) mentions that not only the
translation and the study of language itself are important factors to analyze when we
study a translation but also external elements can be relevant to these studies. By
analyzing the translator’s background, the cultural events and even the economic
interest we could identify how these factors interfere in a translation.
