1. Let the marked price of the book be ` x. Sum of marks of section A, B, C

Total cost = ` 300 =

x −5 x (x − 5) x 3 3
⇒ 1500 = 5(x2 – 5x) ⇒ x2 – 5x – 300 = 0 \ Height of cone = 4r

also increased by the same number. OR
We have, A.P. 9, 17, 25, ...

And Sn = 636
3. Let the radius of the circle be r cm. A Here, a = 9 and d = a2 – a1 = 17 – 9 = 8

Now, OA = OB ⇒ ∠OAB = ∠OBA ... (i)

In DAOB, ∠AOB + ∠OAB + ∠OBA = 180°

⇒ 100° + ∠OAB + ∠OAB = 180° [Using (i)]
⇒ 4n2 + 53n – 48n – 636 = 0
⇒ 2∠OAB = 80° ⇒ ∠OAB = 40° ⇒ n(4n + 53) –12(4n + 53) = 0
Now, ∠OAT = 90° [∵ Tangent at any point of a circle is ⇒ (n – 12)(4n + 53) = 0
perpendicular to the radius through point of contact] 53
Thus, ∠BAT = ∠OAT − ∠OAB = 90° − 40° = 50° ⇒ n = 12 or − (Not possible)

Mean marks obtained by section B = 65% ⇒ 27(3x)2 – 730(3x) + 730 – 703 = 0
\ Sum of marks of 40 students = 40 × 65% = 2600%
⇒ 27 t2 – 730 t + 27 = 0 [Putting 3x = t]
Mean marks obtained by section C = 50% 2
\ Sum of marks of 35 students = 35 × 50% = 1750% ⇒ 27 t – 729 t – t + 27 = 0
