Activity Sheets in Background of The Study

Here is the background of the study for my approved research title "A Study on the Factors Affecting the Academic Performance of Grade 7 Students": Education is one of the basic human rights of every individual. It plays a vital role in the development of students and the progress of the society. However, there are various factors that can negatively influence students' academic performance. Previous studies have identified factors such as family background, teaching methods, peer influence, socioeconomic status, and learning environment as having an impact on how well students perform in school. However, more research is needed to determine which of these factors are most significant among younger students in the Philippines. This proposed study aims to identify the factors affecting the academic performance of Grade 7 students in

Topic: Describes Background of the Study (CS_RS12-Id-e-3)

Introduction:

The background of a study in research serves as the foundational context for the
investigation, offering a detailed overview of the subject matter. It typically introduces the
research problem or topic, emphasizing its significance and relevance in the broader field.
This section outlines the historical evolution or development of the issue to provide a
comprehensive understanding of its background. It delves into existing literature,
highlighting previous studies, theories, or gaps in knowledge related to the research topic.
Moreover, the background of the study clarifies the rationale behind the research,
explaining why the study is important and necessary. It often specifies the objectives,
research questions, or hypotheses that the study aims to address, providing a clear
direction for the investigation. Ultimately, this section aims to orient the reader, laying the
groundwork for understanding the purpose, scope, and importance of the research.

A CORRELATIONAL STUDY BETWEEN CAREER INTEREST AND CAREER DECISION-MAKING OF GRADE 12

LEARNERS

GLOBAL PERSPECTIVES
Stakeholders and educators in South Africa's STEM fields are curious about how STEM
students choose their careers given their deficiency in critical abilities. According to an
article published at the World Economic Forum on Africa in 2016, students now enrolled in
South African universities are taking courses unrelated to STEM. Many find it difficult to
Global:
locate graduates with the appropriate training who possess sophisticated problem-solving
ability, critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and cognitive flexibility. (Abe and Choko,
2020)

NATIONAL PERSPECTIVES
The factors influencing STEM students' career choices are being identified in Zambales.
NATIONAL
To find characteristics that influence STEMPERPECTIVES
students' job decisions, a questionnaire was
created. The STEM students at a public secondary school in Zambales responded to the
questionnaire. It was demonstrated that although they acknowledge the advice and
assistance of peers and family, they place a higher weight on personal professional
preferences. Their educational background has a significant impact on the careers they
choose. Students understand that there are numerous aspects that play a significant role in
helping them select jobs that align with their unique knowledge, abilities, and interests when it
comes to various career selection tactics and passions. Selecting a profession is a lifelong
process that involves growth and development. (Ahmad & Nadeem 2016)
LOCAL PERSPECTIVES

The Davao City-based Regional Career Advocacy Congress in Region XI. The Department of
Science and Technology XI (DOST XI), the Professional Regulation Commission XI (PRC XI), the
Department of Education XI (DepEd XI), the Commission on Higher Education (CHED XI), and
the TESDA Regional Office collaborated on the activity. It sought to give job seekers in the
twenty-first century, as well as high school and college students, new employment
opportunities and career guidance. The purpose of this effort is to address the rising disparity in
competency levels between international students who have graduated from other countries
and the Filipino labor force and graduates. It also aims to solve mismatches in employment and
skills. Suyao inspired the crowd with his introductory remarks. (Suyao, 2013)

RESEARCH GAP
The study's findings and outcomes will hopefully provide students with experiences that
broaden the exploration process as well as a wide range of professional information on all
accessible vocations, allowing them to explore broadly before making their choices. There is
a research gap owing to the fact that the majority of earlier studies tended to concentrate on
values and professional interests rather than career decision-making, leaving a research void.
The characteristics or variables that might affect students' career preferences were not
further investigated in the other research. In addition, this study will discuss and examine the
study's determinants.

URGENCY OF THE STUDY

The researchers aim to examine the relationship between career interests and career
decision-making of grade 12 learners, as well as the determinants that may influence their
career selection. More importantly, the study will give updated data to any schools as
benchmark data for senior high curricular offerings and implementations.
Now It’s your TURN!.

Direction: Based on the given example, identify what part of the Background of the Study
is the given statement below.
Choose your answer in the box.

1. “Computer waste can pose environmental and health threats if not properly
disposed through reusing, refurbishing, and recycling (3R) options. In developing
countries like Malaysia, the enforcement of environmental quality regulations for
computer waste is limited to corporate and not individual consumers, thus, the
collection rate among consumers is very low (5%). (Yeow & Loo, 2018).”

2. “Given the severe pollution of the water sources in Metro Manila, the issue is
particularly concerning. The majority of the rivers are biologically dead, according
to data on water quality collected by monitoring stations at different points along
the rivers. One definition of "biological death" is a low level of dissolved oxygen
(DO), mostly in water. When a body of water has a DO level of zero, which
indicates total "eutrophication," it is deemed biologically dead. The development of
new wastewater treatment facilities, the expansion of water sanitation
infrastructure, and the displacement of informal settlers along river banks are
among the initiatives that the Metro Manila government has adopted to improve the
quality of the water in the city's water bodies. The employment of economic
instruments by the government, such as environmental fees and pollution fines, has
recently increased. (Jalilov, 2018).”

3. “The main purposes of this study were to compare ninth grade student
achievement in Tennessee schools the year before and the year following the
schools’ implementation of a freshman academy and to compare traditional
Tennessee high schools with those that adopted freshman academies. Traditional
high schools were generally those schools that served grades 9 through 12 without
separating students by grade level. School data from four different high schools in
the state of Tennessee were used to determine whether differences existed
between the freshman academy approach versus the traditional high school
approach in determining student achievement.”
4. “In the digital world there are a big amount of e-waste of social and environmental.
This entire analysis is based on a system case made by recycle. Recycle is the
process of returning a material to an earlier stage. In the context of the computer
industry this gap is substantial. This innovation helps the users in technological field
with the lesser cost of tool organizer.”

5. “It is common to think of law enforcement as a difficult vocation. This study was
carried out because police officers are under constant stress. This study aimed to
evaluate Tagum City police officers' work-related stress. Two hundred police
officers participated in the study, which used a quantitative design. The findings
indicate that police officers' job stress levels have reached a high descriptive level
(x=4.09). Based on the following metrics, this is determined: job performance
(x=4.00), physical health (x=4.06), and emotional wellness (x=4.19), all of which
received a high descriptive level. A program for intervention was created in light of
these findings. (Parcon et al., 2023)”
