Launch Announcement of the leading international competition
(ARMYTHON-2023) in the fields of cybersecurity and cryptography for Armies
and Security Agencies. Jordan Dead Sea on Saturday 2nd September 2023 Jordan Design and development Bureau “JODDB” has launched today its first exceptional competition specialized in advanced cybersecurity "ARMYTHON", under the patronage of His Excellency Brigadier Eng. Ayman Ahmed Al-Batran - Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and the CEO of Jordan Design and Development Bureau “JODDB” , which aims to raise awareness and exchange experiences in the field of cybersecurity and cryptography through live exercises to develop the capabilities and performance of Armies and Security Agencies in the participating Arab and African countries. This competition comes within the activities of “AIDTSEC2023” exhibition organized by the Special Operations Forces Exhibition and Conference (SOFEX), as a live platform for meeting experts and presenting the latest modern technologies and solutions in the fields of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. ARMYTHON is the first of its kind in the region, as it is designed for specialists from the armies and security agencies and is characterized by covering more than (5) key areas which contains more than (120) challenges that were carefully designed and built over a period of (6) months by award-winning Jordanian experts in international competitions in these fields. Contestants over three days will face a variety of challenges that enhance cybersecurity threat response capabilities and protect critical infrastructure, these challenges include cryptography, Digital Forensic & Incident Response, Websites Penetration Testing, OSINT, Reverse Engineering and other fields. Brigadier Eng. Ayman Al-Batran reaffirmed that the launch of ARMYTHON came in line with the increase in recent cybersecurity threats affecting the region and the world, and with the aim of gathering the best experts and specialists in the fields of cybersecurity and encryption in one place to enhance and facilitate the exchange of expertise, create a spirit of cooperation between specialists from the participating countries which leads to building new networks for joint work and situational awareness. Eleven teams from Nine Arab and African countries in addition to an observer team from Georgia with Jury from Jordan & Austria will participate in the competition, confirms the importance of the competition and its response to the operational need to address existing cybersecurity threats. H.E. explained that this step comes as part of our efforts to maintain peace and digital security amidst the growing cybersecurity threats. Hackers target infrastructure and strategic sectors in different countries, therefore the cooperation of experts and specialists plays a crucial role in countering these threats and preventing any negative impacts. Jordan is considered as the first country in the region organizing a specialized event in this field for Armies and Security agencies, while launching such competition is an expansion of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan's leading role and its continuous commitment to strengthening international peace and security through the implementation of joint international exercises such as Eager Lion exercises and special operations exercises, in addition to cybersecurity exercises.
