Introduction
In here you will find pattern and instructions for my Lilac. This delicate flower is commonly
used for decor and bouquets, and is a popular choice in wedding bouquets and any spring
flowers inspired flower arrangement.

Included in this document are 2 patterns - a large Lilac blossom pattern and a smaller one.
Photo guide will show you how to turn these two into large and small buds. Use this pat-
terns to crochet your own magnificent Lilac branch, a standard size branch requires any-
where between 50-100 blossoms with 10-20 of them being closed ones.

Pattern notes
The e-book starts with pattern diagram and then
the instructions follows (in American Standard
Terms, See appendix for conversion to British).

Materials Note :
I recommend Pearl thread size #8, it is quite com-
mon thread, mostly used for Embroidery and
Cross Stitch. If you already got size #40 cotton
thread in your stash, you can use it as well (don’t
forget to match the hook).

I’ve created a page in my Blog where I updated a

list of recommended tested threads - see here.

Lilac Branch
Lilac branch is made of blossoms in various state of “open-ness” and buds (closed
blossoms). In this document I include patterns for two size of blossoms, which
you can then bring to the desired shape (fully open, half open or fully closed,
shown in photo tutorial).

The branch to the left is ~3.2in/8cm wide

and 6.7in/17cm tall. And it required 54
blossoms to make (with 12 of them be-
ing buds).

The density and size of the branch, will

define how many blossoms are needed.

The Lilac blossoms are made of 4 pet-

als, and yellow anthers in the middle.
The patterns and instructions in the next
page will guide you how to make a full
Lilac branch.

Traditionally, lilacs are in pale purple

color (pastel-ish), but can be found in
nature in any shade between white to
dark purple.

Final Measurement of Blossoms :

- Large : ~1.2in / 3cm wide.
- Small : ~0.9in / 2.3cm wide.

Large Lilac Blossom Instructions

Crocheting this blossom is done in the round and
in a single continuous work. Use pearl cotton
thread size #8 in your preferred color.

Final Measurement : ~1.2in / 3cm wide.

Rnd 1 : Magic Ring, ch 1, sc 6 in ring, join with

sl-st to beg ch.

Rnd 2 : ch 1, sc 6 in each st around, join with sl-st to beg ch.

Please Note : You can make the tubular section of the Lilac blossom longer by re-
peating Round 2 until you reach the desired length (I like to do it only once, even
tho its less realistic looking :) I think it looks better like this when many of them
are grouped together ).

Rnd 3 : ch 1, sc 2, 2-st sc inc, sc 2, 2-st sc inc, join with sl-st to beg ch.

Rnd 4 : ch 1, sc 8 in each st around, join with sl-st to beg ch.

Next, we do the petals, each petal is being worked in each 2 stitches around.
Moreover, each petal is made of 8 core stitches - first 4 stitches are being worked
in the first st, and the next 4 in the next st.

Rnd 4 : start with sl-st to join to next stitch (would be the first sc of the previous
round), and continue - [(Worked in first sc) ch 4, tc, qc, qc, ch, sk 1, sl-st, (worked
in next sc), qc, qc, tc, ch 4, sl-st to previous rnd, sl-st to next st in previous rnd],

Finishing the Blossom

To finish a single Lilac blossom, we’ll need to attach it to short stems that will at-
tach the blossom to the main branch. Moreover, we’ll need to add the yellow an-
thers in the middle.

To do so, we’ll need :

- Green coated metal wire (26-28
gauge) @ ~5-6in/13-15cm.
- Floral tape.
- Yellow thin thread (Pearl cotton #8,
size #40 or #50 can be used as well).
- Hot Glue & Scissors.

Follow the photo series below for a

step by step guide :

Step 1 - Fold the wire leaving ~2in/5cm tail. Hold Step 2 - Wrap the thread tightly around the wire,
the yellow thread together with the wire. heading towards the long tail tip.

Step 3 - Once the yellow section is around Step 4 - Once the first layer is fully covered tight the

Step 7 - Cover the slightly with floral tap. Step 8 - Press the yellow loop at its top middle.

Step 9 - And fold horizontally. Step 10 - At the end, the anthers should look like
the photo above.

Step 11 - Slide the wire through the blossom tightly together with no wiggle room.

Step 13 - Add floral tape to the base of the blossom. Step 14 - Make sure its firm and tight, so the blos-
som cannot slide down the wire.

At this stage, once the floral tape was added

to the bottom of the blossom, the open blos-
som is done. You can furthermore fold and
shape the petals to your liking.

Next, I’ll show you how to finish the buds -

same technique is used to make the big bud
and the small bud. Big bud is made from the
large lilac blossom pattern, while the small
bud from the smaller.

Step 15 - Fold the petals to bring them to this shape.

Finishing the Blossom (#4)

Step 16 - Apply hot glue to the anthers section. Step 17 - Fold the petals inward to glue them to-
gether

Step 18 - Squeeze the tips of the petals Step 19 - Apply additional hot glue, so we can glue
the tips of the petals together.
You can furthermore fold and squeeze the
tips of the petals to achieve the desired
shape.

Lastly, apply floral tape to the base (and

probably clean the big little mess the hot
glue made :))

Step 20 - Fold the tips inwards to glue them to-

gether.

Building the Branch

To complete a full Lilac branch, it is recommended to crochet 50-100 Lilac blos-
soms, with around 10-20 of them buds (The branch in the photos in document is
made of 54 blossom with 12 of them being buds).

Once all buds and open blossoms are finished, its time to build the branch. There
are many ways to do so, but I found the following the easiest and most flexible :

Use the floral tape to attach the blos-

soms together in groups of 3 (do not
mix open blossoms and buds).

Depending on the size of the branch

you’re making - for a medium sized
branch, attach 4-5 group of buds at
the top. Attach the groups together
with additional floral tape. Once the
groups are attached, you can arrange
the single buds later - but try to
maintain the traditional oval shape
of the branch.

Next, start adding the open blossom

groups, one by one, to achieve the
design your are aiming for.

Once all groups are attached, you

can now arrange the blossoms to
your liking.

(Alternatively to attaching the groups together, you can attach them all to a single
thick stem (gauge 16/18))

Lilac

That’s it :) crochet several branches to make a magnificent bouquet or arrange-

ment, or add as fillers and companions in spring influenced bouquet. Crochet a
few to add to a lovely headpiece, corsage or even a necklace.

I really hope you enjoyed making this lovely Lilacs. If you have any question,
please let me know and I’ll do my best to help.

Thanks and enjoy crocheting!

Happy Patty :)
