SEDA HOTEL (NUVALI)
BACKGROUND
The term "seda" in the Filipino language means "silk," and it stands for their dedication to
offering a seamless hospitality experience. The company that owns and operates Seda Hotels is
AyalaLand Hotels and Resorts Corporation, the hospitality division of Ayala Land, Inc., the top
sustainable estate builder in the Philippines. Ayala Land offers a wide range of high-quality residential
and commercial developments that promote regional economic development. Within the Nuvali estate
owned by Ayala Land in Santa Rosa, Laguna, a fourth location, the 150-room Seda Nuvali, opened its
doors in March 2014. A variety of team-building, outdoor adventure, and retail locations like Camp N
and wakeboarding are all close to Solenad's dining, entertainment, and shopping establishments, which
are directly across from Seda Nuvali. An essential aspect of the Nuvali eco-city development and a short
distance from the expanding industrial areas of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon, Seda Nuvali
brings everyone closer to nature. They are the first hotel in the Philippines to receive the LEED Silver
accreditation for sustainability, and they offer breathtaking views of the tranquil lake, green fields, and
breathtaking vistas.
STRATEGIES/CONSERVATION PRACTICES
1. Energy Conservation
In the industry, energy conservation takes two forms: reduction and efficiency. Seda Nuvali begin by
instructing staff members in energy-saving behaviors. These actions may range from transforming off
lights to modifying the controls on laundry machines and properly setting thermostats. Conservation of
energy may also include gentle reminders to guests of their towel or electricity usage. Seda Nuvali
awarded as the the first LEED Silver-Certified Hotel because of the planning and construction of the
correctly positioned building that meets all the requirements which include highly efficient heating and
cooling ventilation and air-conditioning systems, as well as energy-efficient lighting systems. They are
also looking for chances to use environmentally friendly equipment or products to increase efficiency.
They are construct solar panels for cooling and heating costs or switch to energy-saving LED lights.
2. Less Water Consumption
Makati Development Corp., a contractor for Seda Nuvali, and ecoSolutions, the company's lead
mechanical and electrical consultant, worked together to ensure that construction procedures would
minimize waste and minimize site disturbance. The Nuvali site is the principal Seda inn to incorporate
into its plan the lake at its lawn. The landscaped lake not only serves as a facility for recycling water, but
it is also the community's visual focal point.
3. Eco-friendly products.
One of the most important when it comes to green practices for an establishment is the use of eco-
friendly cleaning products. Another practice that is being applied in Seda is the use of eco-friendly
disposables. Seda Hotel is now using utensils and dinnerware made of renewable materials such as
bamboo and sugarcane. Especially now some other parts of the cities are considering banning plastic
straws and switching to eco-friendly bags for the sake of our environment. Keeping the establishment
clean is very important but many types of cleaning supplies contain harsh chemicals that harm the
environment. That is why instead of patronizing such products, Seda Nuvali uses chemicals that have the
same cleaning power but are safe for the environment.
Recommendation
Though practices and ways of Seda Hotel greatly help the environment and even the economy,
there are still approaches that they can implement to cover up their lackings. Such ways are proper
waste disposal and conservation of the body of water around their area. Eco-friendly packaging is a good
approach but still, proper disposal is necessary to sustain the positive effect to the environment. Lastly,
the lake within the area must be taken seriously, knowing that living organisms are present; they should
at least help minimize any pollution that can contaminate the body of water.
