Capacitor Lect 03 Notes

Three identical metal plates arranged equidistant in air each with area A are connected to a battery with EMF V. The equivalent capacitance between the plates is either εoA/d or 2εoA/d, depending on the configuration. A parallel plate capacitor with four identical plates each of area A arranged equidistantly has a capacitance of either 3εoA/2d or 5εoA/2d between points 1 and 2, depending on whether the other two plates are connected or isolated. The equivalent capacitance of 12 identical capacitors arranged along the sides of a cube between points A and B is given.

Dielectric in Capacitors
DIELECTRIC
➢ A Dielectric (or Dielectric material ) is an electrical insulator.

➢Unlike Conductors, Dielectric materials DO NOT have any loosely

bounded or Free electrons.

➢When a Dielectric material is placed in an Electric Field , Electric

Polarization occurs.
