Lesson Plan Lesson 4 Cambridge English Book 3

This lesson plan aims to teach Year 3 students about writing setting descriptions. The learning objectives focus on using adjectives to describe settings. Students will discuss different settings and identify adjectives to describe two similar settings shown in pictures. They will then write sentences describing the settings. Finally, students will write a paragraph describing a setting they are familiar with. Formative assessment involves students writing paragraphs to describe each picture setting. Differentiation is provided through visual aids and kinesthetic writing activities.

learners to use and of the words in the word mat to describe the settings
in the PowerPoint presentation.

4 Main activities Timing:

Look at the settings (20-25 minutes) 60 min
 Talk about the two pictures together.
 Organise the learners into groups and ask each group to record the
similarities and differences between the two pictures.

 Discuss the two lists and explain that the setting is the same, but the
weather changes the atmosphere in each one, so we need different
adjectives to describe it.
 Give learners time to work in pairs to identify which adjectives should
be applied to Picture 1 and which to Picture 2. Explain that learners are
to write sentences about each of the pictures using some of these
adjectives.
 Explain that because each group of sentences describes one picture,
learners do not need to number the sentences but can group them
together into a paragraph and that they should write a paragraph for each
picture.
 Encourage learners to peer assess as they share the paragraphs they
write.

Write a description of a setting you know:

 Ask learners to choose one of the settings they know very well and to
think of adjectives to describe it. Allow time for learners to write a
paragraph about their chosen setting.

5 Assessment opportunities: Formative

 Learners will write one paragraph to describe each picture. Each paragraph should include information
about how the setting feels and the atmosphere it creates.

6 Differentiation opportunities:
 Differentiation happened as following:
- Visual: pictures, poster, interactive game.
- Kinesthetic: writing.
