Locus of Control

The document describes a locus of control scale developed by J.B. Rotter in 1966. The scale consists of 13 pairs of statements that measure a person's belief in either internal or external control - whether they believe outcomes are determined by their own actions or external forces. A high score on the scale indicates an external locus of control, meaning a belief that life events are shaped by factors outside one's control like luck, fate or powerful others. A low score indicates an internal locus of control, meaning a belief that outcomes are primarily determined by one's own actions and abilities.
