As Ashley went through secondary school, her interest in learning declined, and so did her grades.
She started sneaking out to attend parties and sleepovers, even though they conflicted with Friday-
night youth meetings at her church. She also began to dress differently. She was no longer
‘conventional’ in her style. She wanted to wear the latest fashion and brand-name, like her friends.
She was far from the young lady she was when she first attended Meticulous High. Her mother
and her teachers are extremely concerned.
Question 1
In the case study, it is mentioned that Ashley “grappled with understanding what was happening
to her”. Imagine that you were providing Ashley with information to help her understand the
developmental changes that she is experiencing, and complete the following:
a. identify the domain of development that Ashley is ‘grappling to understand’
b. provide a thorough description of the developmental changes that Ashley is likely to
experience at this stage which are associated with the domain that you identified in part
(a)
