13-3rd Party API-13-10-2023

An API acts as an intermediary between applications, allowing them to communicate and share data. A third-party API specifically enables an application to integrate with and make requests to an external system. Common uses of third-party APIs include authentication, payments, chat, polls, geolocation, and accessing social media data and functionality from platforms like Facebook and Twitter.

Cloud application development

using third party APIs

• An API, or application programming interface, is a
set of defined rules that enable different applications
to communicate with each other.
• It acts as an intermediary layer that processes data
transfers between systems,
• Also, letting companies open their application data
and functionality to external third-party developers,
business partners, and internal departments within
their companies.
How an API works
• A simple way to understand how APIs work is
to look at a common example—third-party
payment processing. When a user purchases a
product on an ecommerce site, they may be
prompted to “Pay with Paypal” or another
type of third-party system. This function relies
on APIs to make the connection.
• When the buyer clicks the payment button, an API calls to retrieve
information—also known as a request. This request is processed from an
application to the web server via the API’s Uniform Resource Identifier (URI)
and includes a request verb, headers, and sometimes, a request body.

• After receiving a valid request from the product webpage, the API makes a call
to the external program or web server, in this case, the third-party payment
system.

• The server sends a response to the API with the requested information.

• The API transfers the data to the initial requesting application, here the
product website.
What’s A Third-Party API?
• API acts as a waiter.
• It takes the requests from your app and sends
them to a third-party system.
• Next, it delivers the result back to your mobile
app.
• A Third-Party API Includes Two Chief
Components:
1.Clients
• You may call it a system that sends the request
to the server.
2.Server
• It may be a data base or computer that
responds to the request
What is a Third-Party API Integration?
• API integrations are used when two separate
websites or applications connect their
application programming interfaces (APIs) to
allow them to access data from the other
through their own apps.
• ie, When a business uses an API of a third
party to strengthen integration with another
business app or web service is known as third-
party API integration
• For example, your business may use Google’s
API to power up a Google Ads integration with
your website. It is a 3rd-party API integration.
Commonly used third-party
integrations for your App
• Modern apps, whether business or consumer
facing need to use external tools like social-
logins, online payments etc.
• No app can be developed in isolation.
• While there are numerous third party
application interfaces by different providers,
some of them are:
• Chat: The chat feature is commonly used to
coordinate customer service and to provide
users with instant online guidance.
• WhatsApp integration into apps has become
increasingly popular, so too are others like
Zendesk Support and LiveChat.
• Access and Authorization:
- This authorization method is commonly used by
many apps for quick user authentication.
• Polls: Polls are used in a variety of apps to assess the
quality of customer service or give feedback on
products or services.
- Form.io and Typeform are two popular API
integrations.
• Payments: Almost every site and app now accepts
credit card and wallet payments. All apps use third
party APIs that lets you connect to a payment
gateway. Payment gateways can also manage
refunds, set up recurring charges, change currencies,
and so on, in addition to regular payments.
• Geolocation: Geolocation is used by a large
variety of services.
- Banking apps use it to display nearby ATMs and
bank branches, food delivery apps help
customers to track their delivery, real estate apps
plot routes and so on.
- Clients benefit from built-in geolocation, which
improves the user experience.
- Google Maps API and Google Directions API are
popular geolocation integrations.
What is Facebook API?
• Facebook API is a bundle of solutions used as
a primary way to get data in and out of the
platform.
• It enables developers and app users to access
the functionality of this network: user
information, photos and videos, messages and
more.
•The main product is the Graph API, that serves as a base for all
other kinds of Facebook APIs, They are in essence extensions of
Graph API, and all of the Facebook products interact with it in some
way.

•There are plenty of ways to upgrade your website or app using the
content and some of the functionalities of this social platform.

•You can display various kinds of social media content – posts,

pictures, videos – on your website or app to engage and entertain
the users.

•But remember that when the Graph API is implemented to be used

by other users, they will also have to approve first in a popup.

• Only after a user authorizes, the application will get an access

token from this user and will be able to use his or her information
from Facebook profile.
Twitter API
• The Twitter API enables programmatic access to Twitter in unique
and advanced ways
• The Twitter API is a set of programmatic endpoints that can be
used to understand or build the conversation on Twitter.
• This API allows you to find and retrieve, engage with, or create a
variety of different resources including the following:
• Tweets, Users, Spaces, Direct Messages, Lists, Trends, Media,
Places
• Twitter for Websites
Twitter for Websites allows you to embed
Twitter's live content into your product, direct
from the source.
