Executive Summary
Problem/challenge
Losing weight can be challenging for some people. Sometimes they might feel like they’re making healthy
lifestyle choices, yet are still not geting the results they want (Spritzler, 2021). Even with the presence of
gym, gym coaches, and diet apps/programs, dieting has a 99.991% failure rate because the majority of
dieters fail to achieve their weight goal (Chastain, 2011). Furthermore, 65% of dieters regain their pre-
diet weight within three years (Masters, 2022).
Key findings
According to the interviews, the primary reason respondents want to diet is to look better. We
discovered that three Indonesian females between the ages of 18 and 26 who want to lose weight
struggle to do so due to a variety of factors such as a lack of discipline, the temptation to eat more
than the recommended daily calorie intake, stress, a lack of time to cook healthy, and a lack of
motivation to exercise.
Overview
This insights mindmap consists of diagrams that describe why people struggle to lose weight, why they
want to lose weight, how much emphasis they place on losing weight, as well as general weight-loss
information and trends. The information was gathered through a seven-question Whatsapp chat
interviews and online desktop research. The interview was conducted in Jakarta, and the respondents
are people of all genders and ages living in and outside Jakarta who all have one thing in common: they
want to lose weight.
Footnotes
When two of the respondents were interviewed via Whatsapp, I found it quite surprising that they were
unable to lose weight due to mindless eating and a lack of time to prepare healthy meals. The lesson
learned is that mindless eating is something that many people do but are unaware of, and it can
sabotage one's weight-loss journey. Mindless eating occurs when a person eats despite not being hungry
because they are bored and have nothing to do. Also, because time is an issue when it comes to losing
weight, healthy, nutritious, and delicious easy-to-make dish should be promoted.
Research Conclusions
To summarize, losing weight is difficult due to a variety of factors such as temptation, stress, time,
motivation, and mindless eating behavior. The next step would be to identify solutions/alternatives to
these issues that will assist people in reaching their weight goals.
