INTRODUCTION TO CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT FOR PRIVATE CHRISTIAN
SCHOOLS
Introduction: Character Development is a very important part of life in any Edify partner
Schools. We believe that we are investing in you and your leadership Potentials not just in
your education. We want you all to become a SOMEBODY in life.
The question is – who of you wants to be NOBODY? Some of you want to be doctors,
politicians, teachers, nurses etc. But to get there you need to have character. You need to
have manners. And good ones for that case.
So as a student of a Christian Secondary/Primary School each week we will get together.
Sometimes in small groups some times as a whole class and take about principles and
encourage each other to walk by these principles that will make us a true light. Talk about
character. These are think that will make you attain the things that make others respect
you in life. But I want to have you answer some questions.
Mother Teresa once said, ‘you long to shine like a star in the heavens, like the moon but your
vocation, your solemn call is to shine like a candle giving light to the surrounding’ So as a
student of light you need not despair, worry or look down because your light is so small.
Reasons why we need people of character:
Stop Crime
Produce God fearing people in all offices including our hospitals
Produce accountable leader and reduce Corruption
Reduce deaths though HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases
Reduce crowding in prisons
What can character do to you as a person?
Instills a spirit of hard work in you
Helps you to live at peace with every one
Open more doors and windows of opportunity
Builds you to be a responsible citizen
Makes you live long – creates you a level of humility
Now we all agree that to be a person of the light you need character. Can some one tell us
what character is?
What do you think is character?
Today and for the all of our time in Senior 1, we will be looking at very important
