ELECTRICITY AND
MAGNETISM
What's the connection? They're two sides of
the same coin! Electric charges create
magnetic fields, and moving magnets create
electric currents. We'll look at some cool
experiments that demonstrate this
relationship.
MAGNETIC FIELDS
What are they? They're invisible lines of
force that surround magnets and electric
currents. We'll use iron filings to visualize
them, and learn how to draw them with
arrows. You'll be a magnetic field artist in no
time!
ELECTROMAG
NETS
What are they good for? They're super
useful! We can make them stronger or
weaker by changing the electric current, and
they can be turned on and off. We'll see how
they're used in motors, speakers, and MRI
machines.
ELECTRIC MOTORS
How do they work? They use the interaction
between electric currents and magnetic
fields to create motion. We'll build a simple
motor with a battery, wire, and magnet, and
see how it spins. You'll be amazed!
GENERATORS
How do they work? They use the opposite
principle of motors: motion creates electric
currents. We'll see how a simple generator
can be made with a magnet, wire, and light
bulb. You'll be able to light up the room!
TRANSFORMERS
What do they do? They're like magic! They
can change the voltage of an electric
current, without changing its frequency or
power. We'll see how they're used to step up
or step down the voltage in power lines.
INDUCTION
What is it? It's the process by which a
changing magnetic field creates an electric
current in a wire. We'll see how it's used in
generators, transformers, and wireless
charging. You'll be amazed by its power!
APPLICATIONS
Where do we see them? Everywhere! From
electric cars to wind turbines, from MRI
machines to speakers, from power plants to
smartphones. We'll see some cool examples
and learn how they work.
