1. Implementation Progress (Describe the progress of implementation to date)
As soon as we received the email informing us that we will received the CIV of the cattle
rearings, we went to prepare and hold a committee meeting to discuss it before 12/4/2023 and
show what the family is required to meet in order to be selected and become beneficiary of the

During this meeting committee, we discussed about methods to be used to select beneficiaries of
one cow keeping per family. We show the method we will use to select the families that will be
given cows, and committee agreed that we will use groups/ association and see who has the
ability to be the most who will be selected and voted to be beneficiary. After we visited the
groups, each project staff and the committee visited the group where there was more than one
person to be selected and voted, and at the end of this assignment we found sixteen (16) families
that will receive cows in the forementioned program named “one cow keeping per family”.

During that time on 15/05/2023, we elaborated the exhaustive list of the selected beneficiaries
and sent it to the sector office (Kazo Sector) so that they can confirm that there is no interference
and see if they are suitable to benefit from the program of “one cow keeping per family”. In the
meantime, On 15/5/2023, the Veterinarian from Kazo sector of the local sector where the project
is working came to visit the families that will receive cows and told them the requirements to get
cows are as follow:

He concluded by telling them to continue to prepare to welcome the cows into the community by
throwing grass and building standardized kraal/ cowshed and that they will be visited once they
are on compliance.

Later we took the list to Ngoma district and they confirmed it.
We issued an announcement on 24/5/2023 calling for entrepreneurs to come and bid for the cattle
market when we officially opened the documents on 07/6/2023 there were 3 companies. During
the official opening of the bidders, only one company called KANYAMI SOCIETY COMPANY
LTD won because it had the lowest prices compared to other companies and had complete
requested documents, but based on the email we received, we saw that we will provide 16 cows,
but based on the prices, as the contractor showed the condition of the cows, we found that we
will buy 15 cows and give them to 15 families, which caused one family to be removed from the
list because the number of cows decreased. We removed him based on the fact that his group that
was in it was the ones who were the ones who complained later, because before time it has been
selected only 15 families, then we lucked two families who lucked two times and then they
repeated the process of lucking in order to get one person (family) who will complete the 16 th
family to complete the list of 16 beneficiaries.

Two days after we opened the documents we made an agreement with the contractor to bring us
15 cows because that is what we would like based on the budget.

On 14/06/2023, the contractor contacted us and asked us to write to Ngoma district asking for
technicians who will work with him where he will go to buy cattle, on that day Rev. CYIMANA
Nehemie the pastor of EMLR Kibimba then wrote to Ngoma district asking for technicians to go
and select cows on 19-21 /06/2023, they also immediately responded with the provision of 3
technicians

The group went to select the cows, 6 people including 3 technicians plus the health and
development worker and the president of the project committee and the contractor, they left on
18/6/2023 and went to Musanze where they stayed/ spent the night. On 19/6/2023 they started
the process of cow selection in Musanze and Rubavu district. In Musanze they found 11 cows
out of 30 cows examined and in Rubavu district they found 5 cows out of 10 cows examined,
they spent the night there. On the next day, they got back on 20/06/2023 and on that time, that is
when the technicians immediately took the blood taken to Laboratory analysis.
