Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge

This document provides instructions for operating an ultrasonic thickness gauge called the Limit 5500. It can measure the thickness of most homogeneous materials from 1.2-200 mm in thickness. It operates using ultrasound technology which works when the object can only be measured from one side. The gauge stores material type codes and sound velocity speeds for accurate thickness readings. It also describes how to calibrate the gauge using a test block and replace the batteries when needed.

Ultrasonic thickness gauge LIMIT 5500
General information
Limit 5500 is a ultra sound thickness gauge to measure
thickness of most kind of homogeneous material.
Ultrasound technology can be recommended when the
object only is reached from one side. Eg. pipes, tanks,
cisterns, design of glass.
Suiteable materials for ultra sound technology are most
metals, glass and plastics.
Conditions for accuracy measurment is that the material
is homogeneous, surface is smooth and both sides are
parallel.

Automatic Off After 2 minuts.
Operation
1. On or manuell OFF. Push the Ө-button.
2. Select material code alternativ sound velocity. See
below.
2
English
3. Drop a little oil, grease or similar on the material to be
measured.
4.Press the probe on the material. ((●)) symbol shows
on the display and confirm contact between probe and
material.
5. Read the value. The display hold last value till next
measurement or power off.
Select material code
1. Push the SELECT-button.
2. Select with ▲▼-buttons correct material code.
3. Push the SELECT-button again to confirm.
Last selected code are stored for next operation.
Select velocity speed
1. Push the VEL-button.
2. Select with ▲▼-buttons correct velocity speed.
3. Push the VEL-button again to confirm.
Last selected velocity speed are stored for next
operation.
When velocity speed is unknown the velocity speed
can be set by testsample with known thickness
1. Make a first measurement on the testsample.
2. Increase or decrease velocity speed as above.
3. Make a new measurement. Increase or decrease
velocity speed till the value on the display is same as
testsamples real thickness.
Calibration
1. Push the CAL-button.
2. Drop a little oil, grease or similar on the test block,
placed on instrument right side.
3
English
3. Press the probe on the test block. ((●)) symbol
confirm contact between probe and test block. The
displays shows 5,0
4. Push the CAL-button again to confirm.
Calibration will be stored. It is not necessary to calibrate
often. Only if suspect not correct accuracy.
Replace battery
When battery symbol shows on the display.
Remove the battery lid on backside and replace with 4
pcs 1,5 V batterys type AAA.
