Chapter I

INTRODUCTION

A. Background of the Study

Through the advent of technology in teaching despite the

current situation of the world will not stop the teaching

learning process. Technology allows all students to have voice

and a chance to show what they know. Through online teaching the

traditional way of discussion and lecture methods were replace by

multimedia adaptation.

Teacher have to answer to achieve the quality instruction in

this time of world crisis. The aid of technology in teaching has

positive effects to learners. Enhance the teaching curriculum

using digital tools will help prepare students for their future

success.

From an early age, today’s children n are exposed to

computers, the Internet, instant messaging, social networking

sites , and cell phones that provide instant communication

locally and globally. The current generation of digital students

is both familiar with and motivated to use multimedia tools.

Teacher educators, must, therefore, harness their power as

teaching and learning opportunities for the next generation of

classroom teachers.

In the most positive sense, multimedia technologies can be

as tantalizingly random as these digital natives. By making use

of multimedia tools in teacher education instruction faculty can

meet digital natives where they stand, showing them how to make

better sense of what initially appear to be random patterns of

thinking.

Creativity teaches students to think in a way that’s unique

to them. Collaboration teaches students that groups can create

something bigger and better than you can on your own.

Communication teaches students how to efficiently convey ideas.

Multimedia it is the field concerned with the computer-

controlled integration of text, graphics, drawings, still and

moving images, video, animation, audio, and any other media where

every type of information can be represented, stored, transmitted

and processed digitally ( Marshall, 2016).

using wide varieties of technology as learning. Creating the

literary experience the technology can be used as a spring board

and around which roles and discourse can be shaped. In other

words, multimedia can play the role of catalyst thereby

stimulating interaction and an ambiance conducive to

collaboration and sharing experiences.

all about the long suffering of a woman. She is undesirably

chained to something, but that does not mean she have to be

anxious and scared for a lifetime.

The discussion of the lines in the poem about “The Whisper”

are written in italicized. Read and process the information for

additional insights.

Aboy aboy, Batya and Patadyong. This describes the scenario

of the speaker who is somewhat depicting an image of a woman

doing laudry in the spring.

The chain I have with you, is a cross to my cavalry. The

speaker is pertaining to an agony against someone. This is

evident in the use of the word “chain” and “cross to my cavalry”

which is a symbol of pain and suffering.

My parents told me to just wipe away my biting tears and

put ice on my swollen lips. The speaker seems to be in pain in

these words with a sense of feeling of pity to oneself and even

the parents of the woman would not even try to protect their

child.

A gift from my husband’s quick fist. This statement

signifies that the speaker is a woman suffering from domestic

violence.

I have become his tail, my parents say, After I have

pressed my thumb on our marriage contract. In these words, it

shows why her parents can’t protect their child. It is because it

connotes that the woman unable to read and write in other words

the woman is uneducated.

Aboy- aboy, batya and patadyong, It’s not a sin, isn’t it

to put off my chain from you and march in the street with closed

fists. The last five lines signify the woman’s decision to stand

on the ground and her suffering by leaving the marriage. The word

with closed fists symbolizes that she is ready to fight. The

speaker of the poem is a battered wife- a victim of domestic

violence in women.

Description of Multimedia and ICT Skills

Exploring the world of literature will be so much fun and

meaningful when you are able to make creative take out of your

learning. One way to do it is through crafting a creative

literary adaptation. This literary adaptations refers to the

adaptation or conversion of literary source (e.g. poem, short

story or novel) into another literary medium or genre such as

film, stage play or video game. It can also involve adapting the

same the same literary output in the same genre or form just for

a different purpose.

The popular 21st century literary adaptation media which you

can try on are spoken poetry, manga poster, digital editorial,

song or rap, editorial cartoon, feature article, short films,

creative non-fiction, flash fiction, and video blog/ vlog among

others. These suggested literary adaptations can also be produced

in a variety of ways but in order to cater the learners various

intelligences, a multimedia presentation using IICT skills is

encouraged.

Using the multimedia and ICT skills has been known as a

learning-friendly tool which enhances the teaching-learning

process by providing opportunities to creatively highlight

significant learning in class while making use of talents or

inclinations ( singing, dancing, writing, spatial, among others)

in designing outputs or projects. Information and Media literacy

involves the ability to critically analyze and evaluate

information; determine what information is needed; visual

literacy skills to understand information that integrates images,

video, sequences, design, forms, symbols, colour 3D, and graphic

representations. They need to know to interpret visual messages

and look how beyond the surface look to determine deeper meaning

in what they see.

Multimedia uses multiple forms of text, audio, graphics,

animation, or video to convey information. As such, multimedia

technologies offer today’s classroom teachers the opportunity to

move from a largely linear learning environment to an

increasingly nonlinear environment. Such technologies also allow

students a strong degree of choice as they pursue learning with

multimedia texts. Although multimedia classroom tools offer

classroom teachers multiple ways of engaging students in the

learning process, they also present challenges lies in the

teachers. One of the challenges lies the fact that certain

multimedia tools promote far more active learning and student’s

decision- making that others (Jacobson & Archodidou, 2000; Spiro

& Jehng 1990).

While there is no doubt that the interest in technology

education is rising, the fast progression in the past years has

been impressive. Multimedia learning have a direct effect on

learning and even on growing as a person.

Teachers must enrich lessons with simple integration strategies

utilizing Information and Communication Skills (ICT) that are

developmentally appropriate. Instruction and assessment processes

can be made more collaborative with ICT, which teachers can

implement with the tools and equipment available in their

schools. 15.5 Curriculum Conceptualization, and Indigenization

states that the curriculum is the process of matching the

curriculum content and instructional strategies relevant to

interests, and aspirations of the wider school community and

other key stakeholders. By linking new content to the local

more efficient and relevant to localization of curriculum is an

essential feature of the Kto12 curriculum. The teacher’s guide

As defined in Deped Order No. 32. S. 2015 the key concepts

of the degree of contextualization may be described and

distinguished into:

Contextualization refers to the educational process of

relating the curriculum to a setting, situation or area of

application to make the competencies relevant, meaningful and

useful to all learners.

Localization refers to the process of relating learning

content specified in the curriculum to local information and

materials in the learners community.

Indigenization refers to the process of enhancing curriculum

competencies, education resources, and teaching-learning

processes in relation to the bio-graphical, historical, and

socio-cultural context of the learners’ community. Indigenization

may also involve the enhancement of the curriculum framework,

curriculum design, and learning standards of subject areas,

guided by the standards, and principles adhered to by the

national curriculum.

Today’s students are immersed in a variety of technologies

from a young age. As such, they have been described as “wired”

or “digitized”, but even these tags are outdated almost upon

arrival. This first generation to grow up in a society immersed

in technology “digital natives”- the generation that has spoken

the language of technology from birth. (Presky, 2001a).

Equally important in this fast-paced, digital world is the

lack of time or opportunity for students to learn from their

experiences; therefore, time must be built into classroom

instruction for the both processes to occur (Henniger, 2003). Not

only are reflection and critical thinking skills undervalued in

today’s standards- driven classrooms, but the policies continue

to emphasize views of technology as primarily means to assist

with writing and organizing information.

Although such technology use can facilitate communication,

today’s students must learn how to think deeply about their

classrooms, teacher preparation becomes both increasingly

challenging as teacher educators seek new ways to integrate

multimedia, ICT skills, and digital age reflections into

coursework.

From a young age, today’s children are exposed to computers,

the internet, instant messaging, social media, social networking

sites, and cell phones that provide instant communication locally

and globally. Not surprisingly, research shows that today’s

digital students learn more when engaged in meaningful, relevant
