Air bag control unit (including the impact sensors) The air bags will operate only when the ignition switch isin the "ON" or "START" position. Air bag system The drivers air bag is located under the padded cover in the middle of the steering wheel. The front passenger air bag is contained in the instrument panel above the glove box. The driver air bag and the front passenger air bag are designed to inflate at the same time. The ar are designed to inflate only in certain moderate to severe frontal coll ‘The air bags are not designed to inflate in certain lower-speed fr colisions, in rlloevers, or in side or rear impact collisions. The ait ‘also may not inflate in certain frontal collisions, even though the v may be severely damaged, Such non-inflation does not mean that something is wrong wit SRS system, but rather that the collsion forces were not severe en ‘0 activate it. When the impact sensors detect an impact of suffi frontal force, ther stiches close circuit which ignites materials inflator to generate nitrogen gas and inflate the air bags. Deployment of the ar bags produces a sudden, loud noise, and rel some smoke and power, but these conditions are not injurious, ar not indicate a fire in the vehicle. They could restrict air bag inflation, or strike and ‘injure an occupant if the air bags inflate. ‘Do not put packages, pets or ather objects between the alt ‘bags and the driver or front passenger, It could affect air bag performance, or could cause injury whenthe air bag inflates. Right after the air bag inflation, several air bag system ‘components will be hot. Do not touch them; you could be burned. ‘The SRS system is designed to work only once. After the air bags deploy, they will not work again, They must promptly be ‘replaced, and the entire SRS system inspected, by an authorized HM Mitsubishi dealer. ECONOMICAL DRIVING For economical driving, there are some technical requirements that have to be met. The prerequisite for low fuel consumptionisa properly adjusted engine In order to achieve longer life of the vehicle and the most economical ‘operation, have the vehicle serviced by an authorsed HM Mitsubishi dealer at regular intervals in accordance with the service standards. Fuel economy and generation of exhaust gas and noise are highly influenced by personal driving habits as well 3s the particular operating conditions. The following points should be observed in order to minimize wear of brakes, tyres and engine as well as to reduce environmental pollution, 1. Starting ‘Avoid rapid acceleration and sudden stars; such operation will result in higher fue! consumption 2. Shifting Shift only at an appropriate speed and engine speed. Always use the highest gear possible. When driving at high speed over public raads, fuel economy can become poor and noise levels rise. The transfer shift lever should be set to “2H”. In addition, for vehicles equipped with free-wheeling hubs, the free-wheeling hubs should be disengaged. 3. City traffic Frequent starting and stopping increases the average fuel ‘consumption. Use roads with smooth traffic flow whenever possible. ‘When driving on congested roads, avoid use of a low gear at high cnaine sped a Idling The vehicle consumes fuel even during idling. Avoid extended idling periods whenever possible. - Speed The higher the vehicle speed, the more fuel consumed. Avoid driving at full speed, Even a slight release ofthe accelerator pedal will savea significant amount of fuel, Tyee inflation pressure ‘Check the tye inflaton pressures at regular intervals. Low tyreinfiation pressure increases road resistance and fuel consumption. In addition, low tyre pressures adversely affect tyre wear and driving control Load Do not drive with unnecessary articles in the luggage compartment. Especially during city diving where frequent starting and stopping is necessary the increased weight of the vehicle will greatly affect fuel consumption. Cold engine starting Starting of a cold engine consumes more fuel. Unnecessary fuel Consumption is also caused by keeping a hot engine running. After the engine is started, commence driving as soon as possible. TRAILER TOWING In order to tow a trailer with your vehicle, have a trailer towing that meets al pertinent regulations in your area mounted at an auth HM Mitsubishi dealer ‘The regulations concerning the towing of a trailer may differ from a to county.
