WIRELESS REPEATER
A wireless repeater (also called wireless range extender or wifi extender) is a device that takes an existing
signal from a wireless router or wireless access point and rebroadcasts it to create a second network. A
repeater operates at the physical layer.
Repeaters are used to extend transmissions so that the signal can cover longer distances or be received on
the other side of an obstruction. Some types of repeaters broadcast an identical signal, but alter its method
of transmission. For example, on another frequency or baud rate.
PROCEDURE:
Step 1: Connect the access point to a power outlet and switch it on.
Step 2: Connect the access point to the PC. Next switch on the PC.
STEP 3: From the PC, open the web browser and enter the IP Address. If a new window prompts for
credentials leave the username blank and enter admin as your password.
STEP 4: On the web-based setup page, click on Wireless. Enter the network name (SSID). The SSID broadcast
should be set enabled.
STEP 5: Nest click wireless security and select your desired security mode.
STEP 6: For WPA- Personal, enter your desired password in the passphrase field.
STEP 1: Access the Linksys WAP300N’s web-based setup page using the default gateway address.
STEP 4: On the Setup page, go to the Wireless tab and click Wireless Network Site Survey.
STEP 5: Click the radio button next to the SSID of your wireless network.
STEP 6: Enter the wireless password in the Passphrase field then click Connect.
STEP 7: Refresh the page, then go to Status and click Wireless Network.
Part C: TESTING
STEP 1: Open the command prompt in PC1, enter the IP Address of the access point. If you get the reply it is
successfully connected.
STEP 2: Open the Signal Strength app and Connect through Wi-Fi and Calculate the Strength of the signal.
RESULT: Thus we have Installed and configured wireless repeater in an existing network successfully.
