Annex 15
Aeronautical Information Service

Objective of AIS is to ensure flow of aeronautical data and


aeronautical information necessary for global air traffic
management.
Except for AIC, the rest of the responsibility of AIS
depends on AAI.
AIS HQ- New Delhi

1) AIP – Aeronautical Information Publication


A publication issued by or with the authority of a state &
containing aeronautical information of a lasting character
essential to air navigation.
Issued by AAI

It either consists of permanent information (AIP AMDT) or


long duration temporary changes (AIP SUP)
AIP Amendment AIP Supplements
1) Permanent changes to 1) Temporary changes of long
AIP duration (3 months or longer)a nd
information of short duration wh ich
2) Made once a year in the contains extensive text and/or
month of April graphics

2) Checklist of AIP SUP curren tly

Parts of AIP (3 parts) issued in two volumes-

Volume I-
i) General (GEN)–National differences, AD charges
and air navigation charges, Aeronautical charts, SAR,
SIGMET, routes/areas for which met info available

ii) En-route (ENR) –General rules & procedures, ATS


airspace classification, prohibited, restricted, and danger
areas, Radio NAV aids & frequencies, approach
procedures

Volume II
iii) Aerodrome (AD)– Refueling Services, List of AD,
Rescue & Firefighting services and snow plan, met
services at airport & watch hours.

3) AIRAC
(Aeronautical Information Regulation & Control)

Information concerning establishment, withdrawal,


or significant changes upon a series of common
effective dates at intervals of 28 days.
The information shouldn’t be changed for at least another
28 days after the effective date

4) NOTAM – Notice to Airmen


Originated and issued promptly whenever the information to be
distributed is of a temporary nature and of short duration or
when operationally significant permanent changes or temporary
changes of long duration are made
at short notice, except for extensive text and/or graphics the
timely knowledge of which is essential to air navigation such
as:
o Change of frequency or location of NAV aids on short
notice, runway closure for a short period,

-NOTAMs complied by NOFs (International NOTAM


Office) at Mumbai, Calcutta, Delhi, and Chennai.

NOTAM Series-
Series A – International – More than 2 hours

Series B – International – 30 min to 2 hours

Series C – Domestic flights

Series D – Military controlled airfields utilized by domestic


flights.

Series G – Information of general and lasting character


affecting a/c operations in general – Only issued by NOF
(Delhi)

ASHTAM– Volcanic ash activity


SNOWTAM- Snow activity

 Trigger NOTAM
It serves as a reminder in PIB (Preflight Information
Bulletin) for the upcoming operationally significant
changes in AIP.

4) AIC – Aeronautical Information Circular


- Concerns matters of flight safety, air navigation,
technical, administration, or legislative matters

-Issued by DGCA

- An AIC shall be originated whenever it is necessary to


promulgate aeronautical information which does not qualify:
a) For inclusion in an AIP
b) For the origination of a NOTAM

5) PIB – Preflight Information Bulletin


It contains recapitulation of current NOTAMs and other
information of urgent character for the operator/flight crew.
Pre-flight Information is available at -
1) Kolkata 2) Delhi 3) Chennai 4) Mumbai

Each contracting states provides an AIS in its territory and


areas which it’s responsible for, this includes the
preparation of an-
Integrated Aeronautical Information Package- AIP,
including AMDT & SUP, NOTAM, PIB, AIC, checklist &
summaries

AFTN – Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication


Network
Visibility minima not given in AIP approach and
landing charts.
AAI website of AIM (Aeronautical Information
Management) showing the tabs for NOTAM, eAIP SUP
& AMDT.
