Introduction to virtual lab
Objectives of virtual lab
Exercise-1: To create the given typical floor plan of 2-BHK with necessary
Dimensions in AutoCAD.
Exercise-2: To create the given ground floor plan with necessary dimensions in
AutoCAD.
Exercise-3: To create the given first floor plan with necessary dimensions in
AutoCAD.
Exercise-4: To draw the given approval plan with necessary views, annotations,
and other details in AutoCAD.
Introduction to virtual lab
The idea of virtual laboratory is to provide students a chance to perform experiments
using the internet and visual aids without having the equipments at their end. The
Virtual lab program presents a unique opportunity to boost the quality of engineering
education, deepen understanding, and provide the necessary practical skills to young
minds through cost effective outreach and distance learning activities.
This virtual lab provides remote-access to various Labs in Civil Engineering and cater
to students at the undergraduate level, post graduate level as well as to research
scholars. This lab would help them in learning basic and advanced concepts through
remote experimentation.
Objectives of virtual lab
1.To provide remote-access to simulation-based Labs in various disciplines of Science
and Engineering.
2. To enthuse students to conduct experiments by arousing their curiosity. This would
help them in learning basic and advanced concepts through remote experimentation.
3. To provide a complete Learning Management System around the Virtual Labs
where the students/ teachers can avail the various tools for learning, including
additional web-resources, video-lectures, animated demonstrations and self-
evaluation.
4. To share costly equipment and resources, which are otherwise available to limited
number of users due to constraints on time and geographical distances.
Exercise-1
Description
■A plan is the most fundamental architectural diagram, a view from above showing
the arrangement of spaces in building in the same way as a map, but showing the
arrangement at a particular level of a building.
■ Technically it is a horizontal section cut through a building (conventionally at four
feet/one meter and twenty centimeters above floor level), showing walls, windows and
door openings and other features at that level. The plan view includes anything that
could be seen below that level: the floor, stairs (but only up to the plan level), fittings
and sometimes furniture. Objects above the plan level (e.g. beams overhead) can be
indicated as dashed lines.
■Geometrically, plan view is defined as a vertical orthographic projection of an object
on to a horizontal plane, with the horizontal plane cutting through the building.
Objective
To create the given 2-BHK plan model with necessary dimensions in AutoCAD. You
can use all the necessary commands learned in AutoCAD software to complete this
model.
Drafting Procedure
1. Begin a new drawing file with acad.dwt template.
2. Create standard border with title block.
3. Set the units as given in the project sheet.
4. Create the necessary layers and line type with different properties.
5. Use the necessary commands and dimensions to create given plan.
6. Save the drawing file as 2-BHK plan.dwg
Exercise-2

Objective
To create the given ground floor plan model with necessary dimensions in AutoCAD.
You can use all the necessary commands learned in AutoCAD software to complete
this model.
Drafting Procedure
1. Begin a new drawing file with acad.dwt template.
2. Create standard border with title block.
3. Set the units as given in the project sheet.
4. Create the necessary layers and line type with different properties.
5. Use the necessary commands and dimensions to create given plan.
6. Save the drawing file as Ground Floor plan.dwg
Exercise-3
Description
■A floor plan is the most fundamental architectural diagram, a view from above
showing the arrangement of spaces in building in the same way as a map, but showing

■Geometrically, plan view is defined as a vertical orthographic projection of an object
on to a horizontal plane, with the horizontal plane cutting through the building.
Objective
To create the given first floor plan model with necessary dimensions in AutoCAD.
6. Save the drawing file as first Floor plan.dwg
Exercise-4
Description
Approval plan is an essential document for the building going to be constructed. The
approval plan contains the various detail of the building such as, floor plan, elevation,
detail drawing, site layout plan, and sections.
Objective
To draw the given Approval plan with necessary views, annotations, and other details
in AutoCAD. You can use all the commands learned in AutoCAD software to
complete this drawing.
Drafting Procedure
1. Begin a new drawing file with imperial template.
2. Create standard border with title block.
3. Create the necessary layers and dimension styles with different properties. 4. Create
the following views: Site plan, Ground plan, Elevation (front), Section, Foundation
details and Stair detail.
5. Create necessary dimensions, notes, joinery details and other annotations.
6. Organize the various entities in the respective layers.
7. Save the drawing file as Approval Plan.dwg
