INTRODUCTION
Background of study
Financial problem is a situation where money worries are causing stress. However,
senior high school has been facing financial problem lately and this problem faced by student
are known as they do not have enough money for their daily expenses, where money worries is
causing them to stress. After that, financial problem will bring impact to both mental and
physical health. According to Halliday Wynes, (2014), a student financial position will affect
their commitment in learning which will affect their academic performance.
Moreover, due to inflation and trade war, it had made most of the country facing
recession and increase the cases pf student facing financial problem. Being unable to afford
food and other essentials can make people feel that they are failures. They may internalize
negative stereotypes that they must be poor because the are incompetent and deeply flawed
as people. This low self-esteem can lead to a lock of confidence and q sense of hopelessness.
Money can affect self-esteem, but basing self-esteem on external factors, like your
financial situation, is risky. Our external circumstances can change wildly and unexpectedly. So,
when your opinion of yourself is wrapped up in what you have or don’t have- and you compare
these externals to others – your self-esteem becomes very unstable. You become easily
crushed. Money is one of those external factors that many of us latch onto for a sense pf
validation. And money can interact with our self-esteem in variety of ways.
Therefore, we have conducted research to show the impact to senior high students
academic performance if they don’t take time to manage their money and ways to solve it.
