INTRODUCTION
A non-governmental organization (NGO) is a group that
functions independently of any government. It is usually
non-profit. NGOs, sometimes called civil society
organizations, are established on community, national, and
international levels to serve a social or political goal such as a
humanitarian cause or the protection of the environment.
NGOs or similar organizations exist in all parts of the world.
What is considered an NGO in one country may not qualify as
an NGO in another, as legal definitions, permitted activities,
monitoring, and oversight differ from country to country. The
term can encompass many types of organizations.
Although these terms are not necessarily interchangeable, an
organization similar to an NGO may be called nonprofit,
charity, non-profit organization (NPO), civil society
organization (CSO), citizen sector organization (CSO), social
benefit organization (SBO), an advocacy organization,
voluntary organization, grassroots support organization
(GSO), and non-state actor (NSA). You may also hear the
terms independent sector, volunteer sector, and civil society
during discussions about NGOs.
NGOs focus on a wide range of issues and areas. These might
include women's rights, the health of the environment and
planet, healthcare, political advocacy, labor unions, religious
faith, care of the elderly, and youth empowerment.
A non-governmental organization (NGO) is any non-
profit, voluntary citizens' group which is organized on a
local, national or international level. Task-oriented and
driven by people with a common interest, NGOs perform
a variety of service and humanitarian functions, bring
citizen concerns to Governments, advocate and monitor
policies and encourage political participation through
provision of information. Some are organized around
specific issues, such as human rights, environment or
health. They provide analysis and expertise, serve as
early warning mechanisms and help monitor and
implement international agreements. Their relationship
with offices and agencies of the United Nations system
differs depending on their goals, their venue and the
mandate of a particular institution.
NGO’s one of the most important task would be that
they are helping and restoring the dignity of those who
always have been ignored and never enjoyed those
activities which other people did such as women facing
gender inequality, untouchables discrimination, racial,
religious These NGO’s are working on a national and
international level and have gained
great importance in the development of society. It helps
in maintaining a society which is free from all the biases
and social evils. It is setting an example of humanity is
still alive. They help in spreading awareness and guiding
and pressurizing government when they fail to meet
their duties.
As one can tell from the basic definite nonprofit is slim.
However, the term "NGO" is not typically applied to
U.S.-based nonprofit organizations. Generally, the NGO
label is given to organizations operating on an
international level although some countries classify their
own civil society groups as NGOs. NGO activities
include, but are not limited to, environmental, social,
advocacy and human rights work. They can work to
promote social or political change on a broad scale or
very locally. NGOs play a critical part in developing
society, improving communities, and promoting citizen
participation.

CONCLUSION
An NGO is a place which shelter’s the people who are in
need, provides food for people in need who cannot afford to
have it. A visit to an NGO is a life remembering experience as
it is filled with emotion, love and charity towards the society.
I personally had got this opportunity to visit an NGO as a part
of my Community Service Internship assigned to me by the
college but now, I feel it was necessary for me for a change
rather than taking it just as an assignment which gave me a
real exposure to the outside world of what was going on
around me. When I visited NGO, I experienced peace and
positivity around me more than it was expected.
All the activities that took place in the NGO gave me a
experience to look after children and imparting them with
knowledge. It showed how basic education is important for
one to survive in this society. The children’s of the NGO are
good in overall performance as the NGO provides education,
daily activities, entertainment etc.
At last, I would say that we were blessed to such service to
society and I personally thank my college faculties and the
university to make this as a part of our education apart from
studies and also to give me this immense opportunity for
completing my internship.
