Introduction
Stress is an inevitable part of life, and it affects individuals in various ways. It is a common
experience among students, especially in secondary education, where academic demands are
high. Stress can have both positive and negative effects on individuals, depending on their
experiences and coping mechanisms. In this research paper, the focus is on stress and its impact
on the academic performance of grade 12 students. The study seeks to understand how stress
affects the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral aspects of students' academic lives, and how this,
in turn, impacts their success in school. Through a comprehensive analysis of empirical studies
on the subject, this research aims to provide a deeper understanding of the relationship between
stress and academic performance and provide recommendations to students, teachers, and
Scope:
This study is limited to the assessment of how stress affects the academic performance of Grade
12 students in a specific school district. The research will examine cognitive, emotional, and
behavioral effects of stress that have a direct impact on academic performance. The study will
focus on identifying sources of stress among students, such as academic workload, peer pressure,
personal problems, and family issues, and the coping mechanisms that students use to alleviate
stress.
Delimitations:
This study has several delimitations. Firstly, the study will be conducted in a specific
school district, and therefore the results may not be generalizable to other districts or regions.
Secondly, the sample population is limited to Grade 12 students, and therefore the findings may
not be applicable to other grades. Thirdly, the study relies on self-report measures, which may be
subject to response bias. Finally, the study will focus solely on the relationship between stress
and academic performance and will not address other factors that could influence academic

Statement of the Problem
The statement of the problem evaluates on how do stress affect the students terms of their
academic performances.
C.) What are the other effect of stress to students academic performance?
Stress is a common experience among students, and its effects on academic performance have
been widely studied. It is hypothesized that stress negatively impacts a student’s academic
performance. When students are stressed, they may experience difficulty concentrating, retaining
information, and completing tasks. Additionally, stress can lead to physical symptoms such as

stress for the students who have claimed to have experienced stress in their academic life, to

perceptions among selected senior high school students in Ong Che Tee Bacong High School.

6. Coping mechanisms: It refers to the strategies that individuals use to manage stress and
7. Well-being: It pertains to an individual’s overall health and quality of life, which includes
9. Peer pressure: It refers to the influence that peers may have on an individual to conform
10. Family issues: It pertains to the stressors that are related to an individual’s family, such as
Theoretical framework
The theoretical framework for this study is based on the Transactional Model of Stress and
Coping (Lazarus and Folkman, 1984). According to this model, stress is a result of a dynamic
interaction between an individual and their environment. In this context, Grade 12 students are
exposed to various stressors such as academic workload, peer pressure, and family issues that
which involves evaluating the potential threat or harm that the stressor poses. This appraisal
influences the emotional and behavioral responses to stressors. High levels of stress can lead to
negative emotional responses such as anxiety and depression, which can hinder academic
support, and relaxation techniques, can help students manage stress and improve academic
performance. These coping mechanisms can help reduce the negative emotional and

how stress affects Grade 12 students’ academic performance. The model underscores the
importance of assessing stressors that contribute to academic stress and identifying effective

variety of factors, such as academic pressure, family problems, financial difficulties, or social
relationships. When stress is short-term, it can actually be beneficial. However, when stress is
long-term or excessive, it can have a negative impact on our physical and mental health.
In terms of academic performance, stress can lead to a number of problems, including reduced
academic performance. There are a number of things that Grade 12 students can do to manage
stress, including identifying and addressing the sources of stress, practicing relaxation
techniques, getting enough sleep, eating a healthy diet, engaging in physical activity, and seeking
professional help.
It is important to remember that stress is a normal part of life. However, if you are experiencing
excessive stress, it is important to take steps to manage it. By following the tips above, you can
reduce the negative impact of stress on your academic performance and your overall health.
Chapter II
A number of studies have found that stress can have a negative impact on academic
performance. For example, a study by Gavasan et al. (2019) found that stress was associated with
lower grades, increased absenteeism, and decreased motivation in Grade 12 students. Similarly, a
study by Bestlink College of the Philippines (2019) found that stress was associated with lower
performance, including:
attention, memory, and decision-making. This can make it difficult for students to
learn and retain information, which can lead to poor academic performance.
Increased anxiety and depression: Stress can lead to anxiety and depression,
assignments.

Research Methodology
This study aims to investigate the impact of stress on the academic performance of Grade 12
technique to select 30 participants enrolled in Ong Che Tee Bacong High School. The data
collection tool will be a self-administered survey questionnaire divided into two parts:
demographic information and evaluation of stress levels and its impact on academic
performance. Descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation
will be used to analyze the data, and a correlation analysis will be conducted to determine the
relationship between stress and academic performance. The study will prioritize ethical
considerations, such as obtaining informed consent, ensuring confidentiality and anonymity, and
Research Design
The study will use a quantitative research design. A sample of Grade 12 students will be selected
using stratified random sampling from a selected school. Data will be collected using a self-
administered questionnaire, which will include questions on stress, sources of stress, coping
mechanisms, and academic performance. The questionnaire will be pre-tested for validity and
reliability. Data analysis will involve the use of descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and
regression analysis.
Research Respondents
The survey aims to examine the impact of stress on the academic performance of Grade 12
students. It will be conducted by using questionnaire, and the respondents will be Grade 12
students. The survey seeks to understand if students feel stressed about their academic
performance and what factors contribute to their stress. Moreover, it will investigate how stress
affects their academic performance and whether they adopt healthy coping mechanisms to deal
with stress. The goal of the survey is to identify the stressors and take measures to address them,

2. Literature review: Conduct a thorough literature review to identify what is already known
about the topic. (For example: Gather existing scholarly articles, textbooks, and
government reports to learn about the relationship between exercise and blood pressure in
older adults.)
3. Hypothesis: Develop a hypothesis that will guide the research. (For example: Regular
exercise will result in a statistically significant decrease in blood pressure in adults over
4. Research design: Choose an appropriate research design and methodology that will allow
for the collection of data relevant to the research question. (For example: Conduct a
group or a control group. The exercise group will participate in an exercise program for
six months, while the control group will maintain their normal activity level.)
5. Data collection: Gather data using appropriate methods. (For example: Record
participants’ blood pressure readings before and after the six-month study period and
compare the results between the exercise group and the control group.)
6. Data analysis: Analyze the data using appropriate statistical methods. (For example: Use
between the exercise group and the control group. Additionally, consider factors such as
age, gender, and baseline blood pressure to assess potential confounding variables.)
7. Conclusions: Draw conclusions based on the analysis of the data in relation to the
research question and hypothesis. (For example: Regular exercise can result in a
statistically significant decrease in blood pressure in adults over the age of 50.)

them at a conference.)
9. Evaluation: Evaluate the validity and reliability of the research and consider areas for
further investigation. (For example: Consider limitations of the study, assess potential
biases, and determine whether the findings can be generalized to other populations.)
Research Environment
This study will investigate the impact of stress on the academic performance of Grade 12
students at Ong Che-Tee Bacong High School. The study will use a mixed-methods approach,
including a survey of students and interviews with teachers and administrators. The findings of
the study will be used to develop recommendations for reducing stress and improving academic
Conceptual framework
Specific Stressors:
The conceptual framework shows that stress can have a negative impact on the academic
performance of Grade 12 students. This is because stress can lead to changes in coping strategies,
