Startup Procedure
The following procedure illustrates the functional steps required to prepare the aircraft for
flight - many of the tests and checks required in the real-world procedures have been

This procedure is based on the aircraft being in the default “Cold and Dark” panel state -
which can be configured through the FMC (MENU, PMDG SETUP, START STATE)
Pre-Flight
Controller Configuration (ESC)
● Make sure you have the correct controller profiles selected for the aircraft.
Overhead (CTRL+6)
DC section (second column, top)
● BATTERIES to ON
FMC (CTRL+3)
● Connect Ground Power (MENU, FS OPTIONS, GROUND SERVICES, CONNECT)
Overhead (CTRL+6)
GRD PWR section (second column, middle)
● GRD PWR to ON

Overhead (CTRL+7)
DOME WHITE section (center, bottom)
● DOME LIGHT to ON (if needed)
IRS section (left)
● IRS L and R to NAV
● SPL SEL to HDG/STS
Overhead (CTRL+6)
EMER EXIT LIGHTS section (third column, middle)
● EMERGENCY LIGHTS to ARM
WINDOW HEAT section (fourth column, top)
● WINDOW HEAT to ON
● PROBE HEAT to ON
FMC (CTRL+3)
● Prepare flight plan (Route, Departure, Destination, Fuel, Performance Data)
● Check for discontinuities and resolve them
MCP (CTRL+1)
Master Control Panel for Autopilot
● FLIGHT DIRECTORS to ON
● Prepare for flight - Heading, Initial Altitude, Auto Throttle Speed, etc.
Instrument Panel
● Set Barometric Pressure (shortcut - press B)
Overhead (CTRL+6)
FASTEN BELTS section (third column, bottom)
● SEAT BELTS to ON
YAW DAMPER section (first column, top)
● YAW DAMPER to ON

Cabin Pressure section (fifth column, bottom)
● CABIN PRESSURE to cruise altitude
Fuel Pumps section (first column, bottom)
● AFT FUEL PUMP 1 to ON (depending on fuel load)
Eyebrow panel, APU section (middle)
● APU Start ~ wait for availability (watch bus transfer)
BUS TRANS section (second column, bottom)
● BUS TRANSFER to APU (inner switches to ON)
Eyebrow panel, right side
● ANTI-COLLISION LIGHTS to ON
FMC (CTRL+3)
● Disconnect Ground Power (MENU, FS OPTIONS, GROUND SERVICES,
CONNECT)
● Remove Chocks (MENU, FS OPTIONS, GROUND SERVICES, REMOVE CHOCKS)
Overhead (CTRL+6)
FUEL PUMPS section (first column, bottom)
● FUEL PUMPS to ON (as required, depending on tanks in use)
APU BLEED section (fifth column, middle)
● APU BLEED to ON
Pushback
Plan and perform pushback (if required) - in the real world engine start happens during
pushback.

Engine Start
Overhead (CTRL+6)
Eyebrow Panel, ENGINE START section (middle)
● Ignition switch to IGN R
● Starter knob 2 to GRD
Instrument Panel (CTRL+2)
● Monitor N2 for engine 2 - wait for 20%
● Advance starter lever for engine 2
● Monitor N2 and N1 for engine 2 - starter knob overhead will reset when engine has
started
Overhead (CTRL+6)
Eyebrow Panel, ENGINE START section (middle)
● Ignition switch to IGN L
● Starter knob 1 to GRD
Instrument Panel (CTRL+2)
● Monitor N2 for engine 1 - wait for 20%
● Advance starter lever for engine 1
● Monitor N2 and N1 for engine 1 - starter knob overhead will reset when engine has
started
Overhead (CTRL+6)
BUS TRANS section (second column, bottom)
● BUS TRANSFER to ENGINES (outer switches to ON)
APU BLEED section (fifth column, middle)
● APU BLEED to OFF
Eyebrow Panel, APU section (middle)
● APU OFF

HYD PUMPS section (fourth column, middle)
● HYDRAULIC PUMPS to ON
PACKS section (fifth column, middle)
● L PACK to AUTO
● R PACK to AUTO
Eyebrow Panel, TAXI section (left)
● TAXI LIGHTS to ON
Taxi
Cockpit (F)
While Taxiing…
● FLAPS to TAKEOFF position (typically 5°)
Lined up on Runway…
Overhead (CTRL+6)
Eyebrow Panel
● POSITION LIGHTS to STROBE (up)
● LANDING LIGHTS to ON (down)
Take-Off
● After lined up and cleared for takeoff, wheel brakes off, press TOGA
● After positive rate of climb, GEAR LEVER to UP
● When speed approaches flap limit, FLAPS UP
● After gear travelled, GEAR LEVER to OFF
Climb
Center Pedestal (CTRL+4)
TCAS section (middle)
● TCAS ON - TA/RA mode
