CHAPTER 6 ADJUSTMENT, INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE

6.14 Machine Zero Point Setting

WARNING
1. When entering the operating range of the machine out of necessity, be sure to press
the EMERGENCY button, then check that the machine is in a safety state.

2. Wear clothes (shoes, hat, protection goggles, etc.) suitable for operating the machine
in safety.

3. Read the operating procedures and understand the contents thoroughly.

In this machine, an absolute servo motor is used and no zero point setting is required when the
power supply is turned on. Accordingly, there is neither dog nor limit switch for machine origin
setting. In factory setting, the zero point is correctly set. However, the zero point may be lost by
disconnect of the servo motor, lowering of battery, wire breaking of motor cable or other
mechanical accident. In this case, re-set the zero point according to the following procedure.
Note) Set gauge is necessary in return to origin when change motors.

Setting Procedure :
Set the zero point of each axis according to the separate procedure for setting the machine zero
point.
6.14.1 Setting the Zero Point of the Z1, X2, Y1 and Y2 axis
6.14.2 Setting the Zero Point of the X1, X3, Y3, Z2 and Z3 axis
6.14.3 Index Position of Each Axis

CAUTION
1. When reference position is lost, the alarm message which requires reference position
return has been displayed on the screen. Unless this alarm is displayed, the setting
zero point cannot be performed.

2. Although the zero point is set, when the zero point position shifts, or when the zero
point position shifts according to the interference accident etc., please change the
amount of grid shifts and redo same procedure again.

3. The parameter that changes the amount of grid shifts of each axis is N0.1850.
Refer to (1) to (8) of 6.15 Keep Relay Changing Method for the method to change.
Please search N0.1850 after displaying a parameter screen, and select the axis that
sets the zero point position.

4. After the same present numerical value, or the changed present numerical value is
inputted, turn off NC power supply once and turn on again, DS300 APC Alarm on a
screen: nth-axis origin return is displayed. (The zero point may be lost.)

6.14.1 Setting the Zero Point of the Z1, X2, Y1 and Y2 axis

Note: Be sure to confirm that the alarm message which requires reference position return has
been displayed on the screen.

1 Select setting axis with Axis selector.

Move the axis to a position where the index positions match in the JOG mode.
Fixed side index
(For the index position of each axis, (Headstock filed cover)
refer to 6.14.3 Index Position of Each Axis.) Match both indexes. Moving side index

Operation will become easy if coordinates are reset using the ORIGIN function of the relative
coordinates (U, W, Y) of a position screen.

[How to use the ORIGIN function]

(1) Press POSITON key.
(2) Press the soft key [REL] on the screen.
(3) Press the soft key [ORIGIN] on the screen.
(4) In case of Z1 axis, press NC1 of DISPLAY,
then, press W of ADDRESS key.
The address on the screen W1 will be flash.
X2 axis: press NC2 of DISPLAY, and then input U , U1 will be flash.
Y1 axis: press NC1 of DISPLAY, and then input V , V1 will be flash.
Y2 axis: press NC2 of DISPLAY, and then input V , V2 will be flash.
(5) Press the soft key [EXEC] on the screen.
The coordinate value of W1 will be set to 0.000.

2 Move the axis 30mm (30mm as a diameter value for X2 axis only) from the index position in the
(+) position.
Fixed side index
Moving side index

Move the axis 30 mm in the (+) position.

(30 mm as a diameter value for X2 axis only)

3 Move the axis from this position to 4 or 5 mm ahead of the index position in the (-)direction at the
rate of 320 mm/min.
