LITERATURE REVIEW

Effects on Youth Lifestyle

Kulandairage (2o14) in International Journal of Technical Research and Applications( p.

23-28) investigate to identify how the social networking sites affect the lifestyle of youngsters by
adopting structured random sample. This study shows that the social media has more positive
effects than negative effects. Kulandairage says that social networking sites are making youth
more creative, more social, enabling the youngsters to raise their voice against social issues and
share or upload information for the welfare of the society. Since social networking sites can
provide all the ways and means to develop personal and social aspects. So, social media has a
healthy effect on youth life

Rapid Increase in Importance of Media

On the other hand, Siddique and Singh (2016), study the positive and negative impacts
of social media on education, business, society and on youngsters. In this study, it has been seen
that the electronic media impact differently in different fields of life. Businesses use social media
to enhance an organization’s performance such as increasing annual sales of the organization.
Siddique and Singh (2016) further say that youngsters are seen in contact with media daily.
Then Siddique and Singh (2016), study negative impact for the comparison of both positive and
negative impact of electronic media on youngsters and it has been seen that false information can
lead the education system to failure, social media can abuse the society by invading on people’s
privacy some useless blogs can also influence the youth than can become violent and in
appropriate action. In last they suggest that use of social media is beneficial but should be used
in a limited way only without getting addicted to it. (p. 72-75)

Effect on Behavior

According to Munniray and Kanaramjat (2010), the media has a disturbing potential to
negatively affect many aspect of children’s healthy development, aggressive feelings and
beliefs, consumerism and social isolation. A similar notion is stated by Ray et al’s. He states
that “children have exposure to violence through media had poorer school performance and its

impact on psychological adjustment was detrimental”. Munniray and Kanaramjat (2010,july)

further said media also has potential for positive effect on children health. Then he suggested
that we need to find a way to optimize the role of media in our society.

Methodology

Empirical Research

Empirical Research is a research that is based on experimentation or observation, i.e. Evidence.

Such research is often conducted to answer a specific question or to test a hypothesis. Research
articles that consist of empirical research are written in a specific manner. Usually this research
is carried out by using one of these method.

Qualitative method: Qualitative research method involves looking in-depth at non-numerical

data. Think of the word 'quality' when you think of qualitative data, you are taking a deep,
quality look at a phenomenon. Qualitative research includes unstructured question in which
(unlike in a multiple choice question) possible answers are not suggested, and the respondents
answer it in his or her own words.

Quantitative method: 'Quantitative research method a formal, objective, systematic process

in which numerical data are used to obtain information about the world. (Burns N, Grove SK,
2005)The questions that provides a set of answers from which the respondent must choose.
Multiple choice questions are closed questions. Also called closed-ended question.

Mixed method approach: It is the combination of both qualitative and quantitative method.

Research Tool

Quantitative method has been adopted for this research based on likert scale. There are twenty
close-ended question in the questionnaire, The questionnaire has four sections (A, B C and D).
The section “A” is related to the personal information of the respondent. The section is “B” is
seeking your opinion regarding “Social Networking effects on Youth”. The section “C” is
seeking your opinion regarding “Effecting human behavior” and the section” D” is for seeking
