BCIT ELEX1102 – Electronic Fabrication Tools and Techniques
SolidWorks PCB Tutorial
Before we can start laying out a PCB for our power supply, we need to learn a little about how the PCB
design tool works. Work through as much of the online tutorial as you can in the first full lab hour.
You should have more than enough time to complete the entire tutorial.
Startup SolidWorks PCB:
double click on the SOLIWORKS
PCB 2018 icon.
It will take a while to start up.
Once the program starts then
please work through:
From Idea to Manufacture - Driving a PCB Design through SOLIDWORKS PCB
Make sure to pay close attention to these sections:
1. Creating a New PCB Project 6. Transferring the Design
2. Adding a Schematic to the Project 7. Positioning Components
3. Placing Components on the Schematic 8. Interactively Routing the Board
4. Wiring up the Circuit 9. Running a Design Rule Check (DRC)
5. Creating a New PCB
If you are asked to sign in to SOLIDWORKS PCB
services then use the following settings:
Server address: localhost
Username: admin
Password: admin
Select the ‘Remember the credentials’
checkbox.
Click ‘Login’
Follow the tutorial closely and systematically work through every step.
When you create a new
project, you may get an error.
If you get an error message
that a ‘Folder already exists’
then change your project name (hint: add your student number to the end of the name.)
