2 Tim 4 o Preach the word you gotta be ready to preach the wordat all times o the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching they will accumulate for themselves teachers to
suit their own passions do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry Jude 16 in the last time there will be scoffers following their own passions the point is... its important to preach the word because people are looking to hear whatever suits their particular fancybe it conservativism, veganism, evangelism, or altruismthey will seek to hear this and find only myths. this is why its important to preach Jesus what people are looking for is sound doctrine People are open to Jesus if what they hear preached to them is Jesus. o most of whats found in the 4 gospels is Jesus arguing with the phariseesgetting fed up with themand going and converting thousands of people o Sinners loved to be around the guy,

6 characteristics o be who you arebut these characteristics must be present o #1 Aware
having knowledge of something because you have observed it or somebody has told you about it acts 17:22,23 Paul preaching on Mars Hill what therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you first Paul affirms the heck out of them I perceive that you are very spiritual paul knew his audience Matthew sends a questionnaire to every event hes invited to. be aware of 2 different things Bible be saturated in this word whatever it is youre going to preach, stand up there with a level of ownership in what youre saying Culture know who youre addressing, who the audience is
o #2 Amusing amusing to entertain someone entertain to engage a persons attention by providing amusing or interesting material by amusing, Im not talking about being funny youve got to get their attention Matt 13:34 [Jesus] said nothing to them without a parable It was a teaching tool that got their attention he talked to people in ways that got their attention EGW TC, vol 9. 233 Make (religious services) intensely interesting. 9 times out of ten would you say that this is intensely interesting?
Andy Stanley, Communicating for Change. P92 o #3 Ardent enthusiastic or passionate Acts 4:33 - with great power Morris Venden naturally, hes a monotone preacher enthusiasm doesnt mean that youre speaking loud Morris was Ardent, he was passionate about what he was speaking aboutbut he was himself while he preached What happens if Im passionate about something, but I cant get over my nervousness and shyness about being in front of people? honesty breaks the iceletting people know whats going on with youpersonally an icebreaker if I notice the glazed over look I repeat it, I go at it from a different angle, or even ask the audience if they got it were in an ADD world, dont hesitate to throw a wrench into it and rephrase it sometimes it is our fault if were blowing itits okay to admit that to the audience and turn it around Jesus saysMatthew, the works been already done. Lets get up there and roar like a lion. this stuff gets me freakin nervous
dont sell yourself short. Dont think so highly of yourself that your nerves are getting in the way of Gods message. Preaching is foolishness. Get up there and deliver it and by Gods grace, it will reach one. John C. Huffman as quoted in, the ministers manual, 98. [preaching] is an event that summons the dead and godless to life.

Its the rock solid conviction that what youre about to say is absolutely vital for everyone to hear. You know God gave it to you and you can hardly wait to say it. youve got to be able to say in your head this is not about me, this is life were talking about.
God can you bring me to this place where I know you gave me a message that I cant hardly wait to say it? o #4 Articulate having or showing the ability to speak fluently and coherently, clear Col 4:3,4 so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ pray that I may proclaim it clearly youve gotta know where youre taking people [video] be clear and articulate to ways to be clear verbal purpose Andy Stanley p 191 what do they need to know information why do they need to know motivation what do they need to do application why do they need to do it inspiration what can I do to help them remember reiteration with articulation start with me
o why am I standing up talking about this? then point to we o do you ever feel the same? then God o what does god have to say about that You o how does this bible passage apply to you specifically we o how does it apply to us corporately
o #5 Authentic based on facts; accurate or reliable 1 tim 1:15,16 Paul the apostle not ashamed to say that he is the worst of sinners Matthew 26:41 the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. Jesus Possibly, jesus was talking about his own personal experience there in the garden of gethsemane o #6 Attune to adjust or accustom something to become reveptive or responsive to something else Acts 2:4,6 each one heard their own language spoken be attune on 2 diff levels audience if the audience isnt getting it, youve gotta flip the script what's frustrating about the NET campaigns is that the speaker has no way to be attune to you be attune to the holy spirit when youre speaking, it is very possible that the Holy spirit is going to get you a fresh download o preaching is like flying a plane
o o o o o
you have a plan about where youre going you also know what kind of people youre serving preaching is entertaining it grabs peoples attention preaching is passionate - it has got to come from your heart preaching is articulate - let people know where you're going preaching is real - if you're struggling, let people know it. People identify with that. Its not easy being authentic. preaching is connected - to the holy spirit and to the audience
