1.Address issues immediately and openly.

When a conflict arises among your team members, action should be taken

quickly to resolve it.

2. Set clear expectations.

Managing expectations – both in terms of what you expect from others and
what they expect of you – is one of the most important things a team can
do to facilitate better communication. Anything you or your colleagues
need from each other should be clearly defined and expressed.

3. Build listening skills.

You may be hearing what your colleagues have to say, but are you actually
listening to them? People's minds often wander when others are speaking,
especially in a group setting, and they don't truly absorb what's been said.
Even in digital communications, it's easy to read a message and
immediately forget about it

4.Recognize and respect personal differences.

Opposing viewpoints, behaviours and work styles can cause a lot of

arguments and misunderstandings among colleagues, Wortham said. If
clashing personalities are the root cause of a lot of your team's problems,
work on being more aware of the differences in how you view a situation.

Case Scenario based questions

Nick Jones has just been appointed as a Project leader in a Web hosting company in

Sydney. There are altogether 15 people who will be working in the upcoming project.

Nick has found that the team is fully diverse with people coming from different ethnic

background and having a range of experiences. Nick has already interacted with few

of them and found they have different views and expectations from the workplace.

Nick also came to know that the workplace has an existing culture where attitudes

towards diversity and difference are discriminatory. He is now unsure of how to make

the group fit for the project and build trust among the members. Nick approached

you for advice.

1. Draft a line of actions that you would suggest to Nick.

I would suggest him the following things:

 Listen to the team members

 Do not discriminate between team members

 Give everybody and opportunity to differentiate themselves

2. What should he have done to ensure that everyone treat every other staff

with respect and empathy? Explain how the social, ethical and business

standards can be effective to maintain effective workplace relationships?

know each other on a personal level. The social, ethical and business

the following ways:

 People are treated with integrity, mutual respect and empathy.

 Problems are identified and analyzed, and action is taken to rectify

the situation with minimal disruption to performance

3. How could Nick build a trustworthy relationship among all staff members

despite all the existing differences? What benefits it will provide if done

properly? (2.3)

possible and make everyone feel appreciated and important. This will help
