B. Profile of the Program or course


i. Title of the Program

2-DAY DISTRICT PRESS CONFERENCE ON CAMPUS JOURNALISM

ii. Rationale:
The Division of Zamboanga del Sur yearly organizes Division Schools Press Conference as this was
mandated by the Republic Act 7079 or the Campus Journalism Act of 1991. The law acknowledges the importance of
campus press as manifestation of the country’s constitutional provision of freedom of expression and the press.
Campus journalism plays a vital role in the school community as it fosters connectedness through updates and
awareness of the current events.

Due to pandemic for over a couple of years, Division Schools Press Conference was just conducted online
thus, other categories, school papering and journalistic values were not strengthened. Access to information,
knowledge and data was elusive.

It is on this premise that School Paper advisers, student journalists need to revisit the framework,
features, on crafting school papers. Furthermore, harnessing the students’ ability to responsibly write
based on truth and accuracy is stated in the Learning competencies of both English and Filipino. Hence,
this activity proposal.
iii. Program Description:

This activity is focused at revisiting the different individual and group categories to be contested during
Division, Regional and National Schools Conferences as well as revisiting the basic steps of crafting school paper.

This is a Two-day District Press Conference through face-to-face to be attended by identified School Paper
Advisers/Journalism Coordinator for both English and Filipino in 10 schools of Josefina Districts namely: Bogo
Calabat IS, Dawa ES, Ebarle ES, Josefina ES, Leonardo ES Mansanas ES, Moradje ES, Nopulan ES, SEbukang ES
Upper B. Tudela ES and student Journalists.

with essential knowledge on crafting news article and other journalistic writings.
