Executive Summary:
Smart Watch System is an innovative solution for detecting and locating a person whose
health is in grave danger. It's mostly designed as a remote rescue system for people who are
at risk of having stroke, cardiac arrest and heart attack. Smart Watch System is a smartphone
synced mobile health monitoring bracelet capable of reading a human's vital signs (pulse rate
and body-temperature).

Apple already have smart watches with such functions but those are of high cost everyone
cannot afford such costly watches. So my goal is to design such watch in low price which
could be afforded by most needy people.

The project isn't only limited for tracking fellow individuals. The project can still be
developed to meet medical standards. Hospitals can use the Smart Watch System project to
monitor their outpatients. Patients who are at risk of unpredictable health conditions such as
having Seizures, Stroke, Cardiac Arrest and Heart Attack. If an incident does occur, the
bracelet can predict it before it even occurs, the Smart Watch System system would be able to
notify their family members or the nearest hospital by sending the exact GPS coordinates of
the person in need.

INTRODUCTION
A smart watch is a wearable computer in the form of a watch, modern smart watches provide
a local touchscreen interface for daily use, while an associated smartphone app provides for
management and telemetry (such as long-term bio monitoring).
While early models could perform basic tasks, such as calculations, digital time
telling, translations, and game-playing, 2010s smart watches have more general functionality
closer to smartphones, including mobile apps, a mobile operating system and WiFi/Bluetooth
connectivity.
Some smart watches function as portable media players, with FM radio and playback of
digital audio and video files via a Bluetooth headset. Some models, called watch phones (or
vice versa), have mobile cellular functionality like making calls.

devices such as smart watches and smartphones/tablets.

(2)
INDUSTRY PROFILE:

Smart watches have risen in popularity during the 2010s. They are often used as fitness
trackers but also as smartphone entertainment or communication "companions". Global smart
watch shipments counted 14 million in the third quarter of 2019.

Just as 2010 and 2011 were said to be the years of the smartphone, 2015 is well within the
shout of being the year of wearable technology. Wearable computing is what will creep into
most other technologies, just as we see mobile phones being used in the photography, film
making industry or the millions of applications through the lenses of augmented reality.
Developers are going to pop all over the place, as we see in the current market. Estimated
number of developers only in the mobile industry is around 5.5 million. Proving a really
niche business growing to be successful in the mobile industry. Companies like Whatsapp,
Nest, Snapchat have created multi-billion dollar industries that were really not imagined
before.

Graph :- (1) , Source: Google

(3)
We are already starting to see companies being based on watch faces. Studio Extreme a
mobile developer makes watch faces for Android wear, Google’s new watch platform.
Developers just designing watch faces for smart watches catering to a really niche audience
today, challenging physical watch manufacturers. Vision mobile predicts there will
eventually be a war between platforms that will do the Chapter 1. Introduction 6 best job at
empowering developers and connecting them with their target audience. Those that succeed
will eventually dominate.

Most research activities have been focused on achieving common platform for
medical records, monitoring health status of the patients in a real-time manner, improving
the concept of online diagnosis, enhancing security and integrity of the patients, developing
or enhancing telemedicine solutions, which deals with remote delivery of health care
services applying telecommunications, etc.

(4)
Objective and Scope of Innovative Idea:
There are a variety of medical alert systems that can be worn as watches. If you are concerned
about falling when you are alone or worried about a loved one, a medical alert system can
provide peace of mind.

These systems put you in touch with an emergency dispatcher who can contact a family member
to help or even summon an ambulance if needed.

Among the elderly, the number of individuals living alone is likely to continue to increase
globally.
Almost 29% of the 46 million elderly community-dwelling adults in the US live alone.
Around half of the oldest (around 85 years) living in the community live alone.
Men are more likely to die before their spouses, and widowed or divorced men are more
likely to remarry than widowed or divorced women.

(5)
Approximately 70 percent of older people living alone are women, and 46 percent of all
women aged around 75 years live alone.
The number of people aged 60 and over is now about 13 million in Thailand, accounting for
20 percent of the population.
For Thailand, population ageing is a relatively recent occurrence; it was only in 2001 that
Thailand became an elderly population with more than 7 percent of the population over 65.
The rise in family size is part of this shift to an aged society by 2050. Thais have lived
historically in extended-family households with several members. But now, as fertility
decreases and the population ages, the total number of older people in households of just
three people.
Clearly, social services and monitoring will be required for this group of isolated elderly. By
2020, 11 percent of older individuals were living alone and 21 percent were living with their
spouse alone.
In most nations, the number, and often the percentage, of older people living alone is
increasing. More than 40 percent of women aged 65 or older live alone in some European
countries.
Traditional living arrangements are becoming less common even in communities with strong
traditions of older parents living with children, such as in Japan.
Living alone in old age has often been equated with social isolation or family abandonment in
the past. In several cultural environments, however, research indicates that older people tend
to be in their own homes and communities.

Graph :- (2) , Source: Google

(6)
In India the size of the elderly population, i.e. persons above the age of 60 years is
fast growing although it constituted only 7.4% of total population at the turn of the new
millennium. Rising health care costs and an increasing elderly population are placing a strain
on current health care services. Elderly patients, particularly those with chronic conditions,
require continuous long-term monitoring to detect changes in their condition as early as
possible.

Detailed description of the idea:

at risk of having stroke, cardiac arrest and heart attack. Smart Watch System is a smartphone
synced mobile health monitoring bracelet capable of reading a human's vital signs (pulse rate

If the Smart Watch detects life threatening vital readings, the phone synced to the Smart
Watch will automatically call a saved number to prompt if my grandparents are ok. If person
doesn't answer the phone, we would know that something could possibly have happened.
The project isn't only limited for tracking fellow individuals. The project can still be

(8)
There are certain health conditions that are completely unpredictable. People who are at risk
of collapsing, cardiac arrest, heart attack and stroke are most likely to be found dead when it's
too late. According to CDC, heart-failure ranks first in their list of the top leading causes of
death while stroke ranks fourth.

According to a statistical research conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC). The leading cause of death was heart diseases while stoke ranked 5th.
Some of the causes of death had the same thing in common, they were quite unpredictable.

VITAL SIGNS

Vital signs are measurements of the body's most basic functions. The four main vital signs
routinely monitored by medical professionals and health care providers include the following:

1.) BODY TEMPERATURE

 Normal human body temperature, also known as normothermia or euthermia, depends upon

the place in the body at which the measurement is made, the time of day, as well as the

activity level of the person.

Fig:- (4) , Source: Google

(10)
 Nevertheless, commonly mentioned typical values are: Normal human body temperature, also

known as normothermia or euthermia, depends upon the place in the body at which the

measurement is made, the time of day, as well as the activity level of the person.

Nevertheless, commonly mentioned typical values are:Oral (under the tongue): 36.8° ± 0.4

°C (98.2° ± 0.7 °F) Internal (rectal): 37.0 °C (98.6 °F)

2.) PULSE RATE

 Heart rate, or heart pulse, is the speed of the heartbeat measured by the number of poundings

of the heart per unit of time — typically beats per minute (bpm). The heart rate can vary

according to the body's physical needs, including the need to absorb oxygen and excrete

carbon dioxide. Activities that can provoke change include physical exercise, sleep, anxiety,

stress, illness, ingesting, and drugs.

 The normal resting adult human heart rate ranges from 60–100 bpm. Bradycardia is a slow

heart rate, defined as below 60 bpm. Tachycardia is a fast heart rate, defined as above 100

bpm at rest. When the heart is not beating in a regular pattern, this is referred to as an

arrhythmia. These abnormalities of heart rate sometimes indicate disease.

(11)
Table :- (1) , Source: Google

(12)
3.) RESPIRATION RATE

A person's respiratory rate is the number of breaths you take per minute. The normal
respiration rate for an adult at rest is 12 to 20 breaths per minute.
A respiration rate under 12 or over 25 breaths per minute while resting is considered
abnormal.

Graph:- (3) , Source: Google

Among the conditions that can change a normal respiratory rate are asthma, anxiety,
pneumonia, congestive heart failure, lung disease, use of narcotics or drug overdose.

(13)
4.) BLOOD PRESSURE

 Blood pressure usually refers to the arterial pressure of the systemic circulation, usually

measured at a person's upper arm. A person’s blood pressure is usually expressed in terms of

the systolic (maximum) pressure over diastolic (minimum) pressure and is measured in

millimeters of mercury (mm Hg). Normal resting blood pressure for an adult is approximately

120/80 mm Hg.

(14)
Falling and Heart attack are the most common causes of hospital admissions for trauma and
the leading cause of death among those who age 65 or older.
The device has a heart rate sensor and a body motion sensor that are used to constantly
monitor these conditions.
The device waits for predetermined time period and if the person is inactive
then, an alert SMS will be sent to those on the device contact list. A smart phone app must
be installed before using this device. The emergency contact numbers can be entered
manually on this app, which will be stored on the device on a permanent memory.

(16)
Relevance of innovative idea with respect to 4c’s:

I. Customer Wants and needs:

People will become much more engaged with their own health if they are
able to use wearable tech to monitor themselves. By getting access to
real-time data which is continuously collected from the device, users will
be able to stay informed about their health condition. Instead of having
your data collected only by doctors’ tests, wearables help patients feel
like they’re in control of their own health by allowing them to monitor
themselves.

Graph:- (5) , Source: Google

This can also motivate people to improve these metrics by getting more
exercise, getting more sleep, and engaging in other healthy behaviours.
Having the ability to track progress adds a whole new dimension to health
and fitness that is unique to wearable devices.

III. Convenience

One unique application of wearable tech is that it can be used to monitor

vulnerable patients from a distance. While many people already use
wearables to look after their own health, many others would like to use
them to look after the health of vulnerable family members. Researchers
at PwC’s Health Research Institute say that there’s clear demand for
devices and services that can be used to look after family members like
children or aging parents. Using wearable tech is a great way for
caregivers to monitor at-risk seniors in the family.

Fig :- (6) , Source: Google

(19)
IV. Communication
We can communicate with patients to use health monitoring wrist band
through doctors. If doctors will prescribe for using wrist band to
monitoring their health they will definitely use it frequently.

Conclusion and future scope:

(20)
Overall, healthcare is growing towards smart wearable technologies with which disease
detection, prevention, and precautions become easier. From remote health monitoring to the
prevention of chronic diseases, every healthcare paradigm has consortiums for IOT and
wearable technologies. Thus, smart wearable are enabling a highly reliable, available,
scalable, and resilient system for a healthy ecosystem.
Monitoring health has been the most advantageous aspect of wearable technology. Not only
does it help fitness-enthusiasts by providing them with necessary health parameters but also
aids patients by providing insights on their conditions. People are more worried about their
health and this has led to an increase in shipment of fitness trackers. Since every smart watch
has a component of a fitness tracker, the popularity growth of smart watch is increasing
significantly, as it has multi-functional features for recording health parameters.
With the rise of health and fitness apps, smart watches and wearable devices, ‘digital
wellness’ is continuing to play a bigger part in our everyday lives. Now a new report
highlights how demand will continue to increase in the healthcare industry for remote
monitoring and diagnostics over the next five years and why the trend will continue.
When the patient will in grave danger this watch will notify their family members whose
Contact will save in that wrist watch and they get to know there is any problem with patient
And they can take precautions and healthcare at proper time.
