THE GIANT’S CAUSEWAY

One of the most fascinating places in the United Kingdom is the Giant’s Causeway, in County Antrim. Although this amazing ‘’path’’ of
huge stones going into the sea is on the coast of Northern Ireland, you could easily think that you were on the Moon when you look at it!

The Giant’s Causeway is a collection of stone columns that form stepping stones and start from the bottom of the cliff and disappear under
the sea. There are about 40,000 stone columns and the tallest ones are about twelve meters high. No one knows exactly when the Causeway
was formed, but most people agree that it is the result of volcano erupting. The first reports of the Causeway appeared in the seventeenth
century, but before the coast road was built in the 1830s it was difficult to get to the Causeway because the land was so rough.

Of course, Irish legends have another explanation of how the Giant’s Causeway was formed: the Irish giant Finn McCool, an ancient hero
who was incredibly strong, lived on the Antrim coast. However, he fell in love with a lady giant who lived on a Scottish island, and if he
wanted to bring her to his home, he had to build this enormous road across the sea, which is now mostly under the sea.
