MLC 2006: Seafarers' Rights Explained

The Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006, known as the 'seafarers' bill of rights,' was adopted in February 2006 by representatives from governments, employers, and workers at an ILO conference, with strict requirements for meaningful change. Its global intention is to protect seafarers' rights and ensure decent working conditions while preventing unfair competition from substandard ships. An MLC certificate becomes invalid if significant alterations are made to the ship's accommodation structure and equipment as per the Isle of Man regulations.
